The Reported 'Best Friend' Of The Dead Boston Bombing Suspect Was The Victim In Brutal Unsolved Murder Two Years Ago
The most intriguing nugget from the big Boston Globe profile of the Tsarnaev Brothers (the brothers suspected of carrying out the Boston Marathon attack) is this one:
Gym owner Allan said that Tamerlan had once introduced him to an American, Brendan Mess, whom Tamerlan described as his best friend.
Two years ago, Mess and two other men were brutally killed in a Waltham apartment where they were found by police with their throats slit and their bodies covered with marijuana. The murders remain unsolved.
The murders were a big deal at the time, due to the disturbing, grisly nature of the crime.
Nearly two months after police officers rushed to 12 Harding Ave. on a September afternoon and found three men dead in a triple homicide.
after three men under the age of 40 were stabbed to death in the neck just three miles from Brandeis University, law enforcement is still searching for answers,
The seasons have turned since the warm night on Sept. 12 when detectives began an investigation into the triple murder of Brendan Mess, 25, of Waltham; Erik Weissman, 31, of Cambridge; and Raphael Teken, 37, of Cambridge, who graduated from Brandeis in 1998 and majored in history. Updates on the investigation have not been noticeable.
After describing the apartment that night as a “very graphic crime scene” Leone later released a statement saying that “based on the present state of the investigation, it is believed that the victims knew the assailant or assailants, and the attacks were not random.”
The three men had their throats cuts and marijuana was dumped all over their bodies, according to Buzzfeed. Five thousand dollars were left at the scene.
Authorities believed that the murders were done by someone the victims knew, because there was no evidence of forced entry.
Police have said they believe there were two other men in Mess' apartment — the scene of the crime — sometime before the murder, but those two men have never been identified
not enough clues.. well there wasn't until the friends learned their former friend was a nutcase terrorist..
Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamarlan Tsarnaev's former friends told Buzzfeed that they believe Tsarnaev may have committed a 2011 triple murder, where Tsarnaev's best friend at the time was killed along with two other men.
One of Tsarnaev's former friends said he thought it was strange when Tsarnaev didn't show up at his best friend's funeral.
Now they see it as a clue.
"Tam wasn't there at the memorial service, he wasn't at the funeral, he wasn't around at all," Ray said. "And he was really close with Brendan. That's why it's so weird when he said, 'I don't have any American friends.'"
A few months after Mess' murder, Tsarnaev went to Russia for six months.
"He was somebody who was in contact with Brendan on a daily basis. Anybody like that, you would think they would have been around," Ray said.
A few months after Mess' murder, Tsarnaev went to Russia for six months.
"Those three guys all had their throats cut, and they had marijuana dumped all over their bodies," Ray said. "It's really gruesome how they were killed. It's not something typical you'd see in Waltham. Not some home invasion gone wrong or something."
Police indicated the three men had "sharp force injuries of the neck" and $5,000 was left at the scene, and they believe the murders were "targeted and not a random act of violence."
They originally suspected Mess' girlfriend, an immigrant from Somalia, they thought, whom Ray described as a "transient" who "latched onto Brendan." She had a friendly relationship with Tsarnaev, with whom she would have "conversations about religious things and lifestyles."
Ray said none of his friends saw any "red flags" while they were friends with Tsarnaev, although he said some of them remember Tsarnaev making comments about the afterlife being glorified and disparaging remarks about Americans once or twice.
