Elder Sen. John McCain, who this week engaged in friendly fire when he launched his "maverick" missiles at fellow Republicans seeking clarification on the administration's drone policies, has upped the ante, deriding Tea Party-backed GOP lawmakers as "wacko birds."

McCain, who hit the Senate floor Thursday to belittle Sen. Rand Paul's filibuster, which succeeded in getting an answer from President Obama that drones won't be used to kill Americans on U.S. soil, even suggested that the Kentucky senator and his allies, like Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Michigan Rep. Justin Amash, don't represent the GOP mainstream.

"It's always the wacko birds on right and left that get the media megaphone," McCain told Huffington Post's Jon Ward in a story titled "John McCain: Getting Back To Maverick, With An Eye On Retirement."

loser liberal McCain may be the one who doesn't represent the GOP mainstream..

while I respect his service, and years or work, maybe it is time for the old gray haired white guy to retire... so someone can join the senate who is willing to fight for our rights and future..

I imagine he is going to be helped into retirement with those statements. I have respect for the distress he faced as a prisoner of war, but that does not justify making poor decisions as a senator. There are no passes when you are to uphold the constitution. He gave much, but many more gave much more and their lives should be honored for their service by making rational decisions for the future of the freedom that they gave their bodies and lives for.

To give blanket justification of McCain's liberal ways because of his service to the "Country" is nothing more than nationalism to me. It is what this country represents, the rights and liberties granted by God, that is important.

McCain was just pizzed because Dr. Paul got more recognition in 12 hours of filibustering than McCain did in an entire 2 year run for Pres.

If McCain had been more like Dr. Paul there would never have been a President Obama.

And I disagree... I watched that election really close-- and McCain was doing well in the running- until he picked Palin...And about a month after he chose Palin- and people started knowing who she was and her position on such things as abortion, sex education, rape, homosexuals, and several other radical social positions--- you could read story after story of Republicans and Independents going over to Obama... Lots of women feared she would take womens rights and their rights to make their own decisions on their bodies back 50 years...
In my opinion Palin lost the election for McCain..

No way Fatlock................... She was the darling of the media until they sent the attack dogs after her. Just like they have done to Repubs time and time again.

Did anyone really care who bought the clothes she wore?

She is every bit as competent and qualified as Buckwheat is.................

McSame never had a chance. While most of us held our noses and voted for him, millions of dunderheads were mesmerized by that silly Hope & Change crap.

Mike, Mike, Mike - once again I have to take you to task.

Hussein is black and islamic and some sort of foreign born import who according to many internet reports prefers men to women and takes regular holidays to get his "man fix".

Is there any doubt who the media would pick?

C'mon Mike - get with the times.

Palin was a smart, straight forward lady who made it to the big time through smarts and hard work. She even let her education, birth and tax records be made public. She was one thing that the "new American" does not like. Straight up.

Competency never entered into the last two presidential race - surely you know that by now!

If you look at the 60 polls prior to Palin being selected as McCain's running-mate taken from June 1st through August 29th this is what you would find:

John McCain and Obama tied in 2 polls
John McCain led Obama in 5 Polls
Barack Obama led John McCain in 53 polls.
Yes, for every one poll that showed a McCain lead, Obama held a lead in 10 polls. In that span, Obama's lead in the polls was close to 6 points, fairly similar to the final outcome. I'm not sure how it was Palin's fault that McCain was getting throttled before anyone knew who she was.

A week after the selection of Palin, the Republicans would hold their nominating convention and Palin delivered a speech for the ages. Her favorable numbers immediately soared. In fact, her favorable numbers at that point were greater than those of Barack Obama. A CNN Poll had Palin's favorable ratings at +30 (Obama was +26), Newsweek had Palin at +30 (Obama at +20), and NBC News had Palin at +20 (Obama +21). The McCain-Palin ticket suddenly led Obama-Biden in 7 polls, tied in 3, and trailed in just 2. Palin's highlight-reel speech was a big factor, but a bit of those leads had a lot to do with the traditional "post-convention bounce," too.

Many try to blame the campaign's subsequent downfall on Palin's interview with Katie Couric, but that doesn't sit well with the facts either. After the convention bounce, and before the Palin-Couric interview, Obama led McCain in 8 straight polls by margins of 5, 6, 5, 1, 4, 2, 9, and 4 points.

You lieing sob...his rating went up considerably AFTER he picked Palin

LAKELAND | Former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin was fired up about God and country when she spoke Friday at Southeastern University in Lakeland. And she was dressed for the part.

The 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate visited the Sunshine State at the request of the organizers of the school's seventh annual leadership forum. She was quite a presence on the stage, in a lipstick-red suit and fierce high heels.

Her passionate talk was peppered with such vibrant cries as "Cling to your God, your guns, your Constitution!" and pleas for the next generation to change the country's moral fiber. "That will make our foundation crumble if we choose to ignore it," she said.

Not one to tiptoe around sensitive topics, Palin got right to the point on reasons she said the country is in crisis.

"Today, look around, and don't you wonder sometimes if, as a nation, we have forgotten God altogether? This is a crucial question," she said.

Palin said the school asked her to talk about hope and resilience. She said she would but "not that Washington, D.C., ‘hopey-changey' blah, blah, blah stuff, but real hope."

Mostly, the 49-year-old hammered such topics as the corruption of Washington, D.C. — "It's a hotbed of cronyism" — and federal spending — "The federal government is bloated, corrupt and out-of-control."

The Forum is a fundraising event for scholarships at Southeastern, and sponsors pay for the speakers. Southeastern officials don't disclose how much speakers are paid, but it was reported Palin recPalin said Friday she was happy to visit a Christian school, and she encouraged students to go forth and spread the word. She encouraged them to "infiltrate" the nation. Study journalism, she said. Get into Hollywood and the sports world.

"Get out there and influence culture," she said.

Palin closed her talk with a battle cry.

"The future of the country depends on what you do," she said. "God bless you."

After the speech, Palin answered questions from Southeastern professor Christina Gard, who was Miss Alaska in 2004. It was then Palin said something that brought the strongest applause.

Asked how she dealt with critics, Palin said it's important to know who you are, and that's why she speaks out for God publicly in a country where she said it's often frowned upon or against the law to talk about religious beliefs.

"God deserves so much better than what we give him," she said. "What has happened when we can't say his name in public?"received $75,000 in May 2010 to speak at California State University, Stanislaus.

I don't know how many times I saw the USS Forrestal flight deck camera footage of the Forrestal Fire in '67, but it was years before I heard that it was Mr. McCain escaping his burning Skyhawk through burning fuel, and I respect Mr McCain's surviving years in captivity as a P.O.W., but they must have gotten to him, Manchurain-ized him. He's very valuable to the enemy and useless as boar-tits to the United States as we were founded.

For awhile they did-- like someone said she was the darling of the media...BUT then people started realizing who she was- and what she stood for-- and didn't like it... I monitored and even talked with some of the Repubs that jumped ship- and she was the #1 reason... Her message did not play well with the educated and younger folks and they ran as fast as they could over into the Obama camp.....

Yeah right, pubs running as fast as they could to the Obama camp because of Palin. If you hadn't told us you'd monitored the situation, I'd have a hard time believing it all.

The pub VP candidate is more qualified than the ultra-liberal donk presidential candidate, but pubs left the ticket because of her.

BTW, who'd you vote for OT? You've told us you're really quite conservative.
