Guess she wanted to display a bright red ornament in the spirit of the season. Sometimes these deals magically put themselves back; since I had other plans for the remainder of the day I decided to take a wait and see approach. Today came along, and the situation had not improved on its own. Time to take action. I called the Kosmo Kid's number so he could load horses and meet me at the job site.

Noweverythinglookshunkydory.jpg

Now everything looks hunky dory and I wish I could report that she stepped right in without incident. Unfortunately, this didn't happen. I was messing with a camera and the Kosmo Kid was adjusting the zipper on his coat. We bombed the deal and couldn't even blame an ignorant cowdog. We kept our cool, tried it again, tended to business, and she went on the next time in desirable fashion.

In at last, to be taken home to get sewed up. I will keep her until we get a calf from her and then she gets a ride to town.

Ya don't think she slipped her calf and prolasped from pushin too hard? Just a thought! Sure like you "corral". We loaded a bull with a bad foot last year, using skunky bushes as a wing on one side and deadfall on the other. Tell Kosmo i like his stovepipes!

Clever loading facility, looks like a cow maze :D . So you couldn't even blame General for missing the first load attempt  . Just looking at your pictures, I think she is still bred too. Thanks for taking us along on your ambulance call, and Merry Christmas!

Never forget Soap, any cow is just a lot of trouble tied up in a leather bag. :D

You needed an excuse for a nice ride anyway.

We have that happen once in a while, we used to have all herefords but now are cows are mostly black with a few baldies. When it happens I blame it on the hereford part. Like the "corral", sometime something simple can make loading one cow out of the pasture easy.

The cows are getting about 26 pounds of hay (long-stemmed big round bales of hay fed with Hydra-Bed pickups) and two pounds of 22% DDG cake per cow per day. I like to keep them in moderate flesh and "saleable" at all times. When going to a bred cow auction, it seems that cows in this condition tend to bring the most money. My sentiment is that if they are worth more to other people in about condition score 5 or 6, they are worth more to me being the same way. Besides, if I ever get sick of running cows I want them to be in tip-top saleable condition if I want to pull the plug in a hurry.

Just cause she's black don't mean she's Angus.

Most likely has some Ankony blood in her pedigree.

Some of his do I bet, as Soap could afford some the bloodlines.

But don't you know by now that I tend to buy my breeding bulls by the pound instead of by the head.

Doesn't matter.

Ankony blood lines can be traced in approx. 90% of all black cattle in the United States.

So whether you like it or not....somewhere....somehow....along the lines....you got a dose, be it by the pound or by the registration paper!!!

Well, if that is the case, they are very good cattle because they work.

Merry Christmas, Kola. :)

LOL, if our cows are all related, does that make some of the bachelors eligible in your county?

On another note, I may never look at how to stack hay the same way again. Very lever and points for fessing up on letting the cow get by. One advantage of all the small places I lease is that I very much have cows that load easy into a stock trailer,

Merry Xmas,

PPRM

Stuff like that sure does make extra work. Those big bales sure make good temp corral panels. :D How did we manage with the stacks and little squares?

Good idea using the bales as an alleyway. We've had cows get in the bales, and get between two close rows which they couldn't go on through, couldn't turn around, and couldn't back up. Had to move bales with the loader to get them out.

I enjoyed this whole thread. Thanks everyone and Soap, I'm glad your day was successful (even if you didn't have a dog to blame things for) .

But what I really want to know is, is Kosmo Kid ready to sell Yellowstone yet? Golly, I like that horse.
