I don't know how many are aware of this--Senators Chuck Hagel (R-NE), Richard Lugar (R-IN), and Dick Durbin (D-IL) introduced the DREAM Act--- but its been sitting for some time- now Reid is trying to run it thru before anyone knows about it....When you count in "family members you are talking millions and millions of illegal immigrants getting amnesty....

Its going to take immediate e-mails and calls to your Senators to stop it...I burned up the phone lines this afternoon....

Reid reviving 'amnesty' for illegals
'DREAM' grant of legality to millions on fast track for vote tomorrow

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is reviving and fast-tracking plans to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens already within U.S. boundaries, and a vote is expected as early as tomorrow, according to opponents.

Just a few months after intense pressure from U.S. citizens triggered the rejection of President Bush's comprehensive immigration plan, a compromise supported by Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass. – the DREAM Act proposal by Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill. – is being rushed through the Senate.

Durbin's office refused to return a WND call requesting comment.

"In many ways this bill is worse than Bush-Kennedy because this is blatant deception on the part of the Senate to get a massive amnesty passed," asserted Steve Elliott, president of Grassfire.org.

Some of the provisions of the plan, called DREAM for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors, include:

Conditional legal status for any illegal alien who claims to have arrived in the U.S. prior to age 16.

Any illegal alien can apply for the program.

Those who gain legal status then can sponsor any family members, allowing additional millions to access the program.

There would be a ban on deportation for anyone who applies.

Illegals would be granted taxpayer-funded in-state tuition rates for college.

In a commentary, Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly said it creates the circumstances where the violation of U.S. immigration law is rewarded.

"The illegal immigrant who applies for the DREAM Act can count his years under conditional green card status toward the five years needed to attain citizenship. That's a fast track to citizenship that is not available to aliens who are lawfully present in the United States," she said. "Giving in-state college tuition to illegal immigrants is so unpopular with many Americans that the only way a congressman could support this bill is by hoping it passes before the public discovers how bad it is. Arizona's Proposition 300, which specifically bars Arizona universities from giving in-state tuition rates to illegal immigrants, passed in 2006 with a majority of 71.4 percent."

An ATTA-BOY to Tancredo...Old Durban upset a lot of folks by bringing illegal invaders into the Capitol Building to hold his dog and pony show press conference....

Tancredo turns In Senator Durban event to immigration authorities Hugo Mann

Colorado Congressman and Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo did not pull any punches today when he alerted immigration authorities about a 3:00 PM event held by Democratic Senator Dick Durban today that was to have illegal aliens in attendance.
Tancredo issued a statement saying that the event Senator Democratic Dick Durbin was holding in conjunction with discussion of the DREAM ACT – was reported to have illegal aliens in attendance.

Tancredo said, “I call on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency to detain any illegal aliens at this press conference. Just because these illegal aliens are being used for political gain doesn’t mean they get immunity from the law.”

“If we can’t enforce our laws inside the building where American laws are made, where can we enforce them?”

 That's funny, OT - good for Tancredo. I'm sure the dems will figure out a way to spin it to make it look like he was just being another "mean" conservative, though.

Yea, no suprise about Harry Reid...that guy is plain dangerous to our country.

HARRY LOSES- AGAIN :D :D  I just got this e-mail...

I want to see the list of the 44 Senators that believe in disregarding our laws- and support illegal activity.....

A vote to invoke cloture on the DREAM Act (S. 2205) was rejected by the Senate today by a vote of 52-44. This means that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was unable to secure 60 votes in support of the amnesty bill to ensure its passage and it must now either come to an up-or-down vote, or be pulled from the floor altogether.

I'm gonna play Devils Advocate here.

Let's say all...ALL ...illegal immigrants are forced to leave...all 12M+/- of them.

Now...who is gonna work in the poultry plants, meat plants, landscaping industry, construction industry, restaurant industry...etc...etc.. doing all those jobs that we deem ' disgusting' and won't do?

Think about it...these people are so meshed into our economy that their total and complete pull out would almost be economic ruin for us.

I am not proclaiming that everyone should just ' come on in'...by no means.....BUT...the barn door has been left open for so long how can we do without that labor force now?

Anyone will if it pays enough. Your question is assuming that the pay scale will stay the same for those jobs.

Those immigrants that come into the country LEGALLY....We should never reward illegal activity...We need to slam the borders shut tight- then allow for a sensible (if government can do that :???: ) migration to this country to fill whatever employment needs actually exist- and ALL immigrants should be held to the same level for being able to receive benefits/citizenship- not one bunch be rewarded shortcuts because they were able to break the law for a certain amount of years by not getting caught.....

Like both RR and OT said.

First a pay scale increase will increase the willingness of legal residents to do those jobs since the free market of supply and demand is not being controlled by slave type labor. Much like things changed when slavery was abolished and things changed for those using slaves to pick cotton.

Secondly we have a legal means to allow as many legal immigrants to enter the U.S. as we wish. If we have a shortage of jobs and put out help wanted adds around the world. "Workers needed, come to the U.S. for a Job" do you think we will get many applicants?

To increase the pay scale are you willing to pay more for....say your groceries at the store? That extra money and benefits will have to come from some body's pocket.

We have become a society where if we don't get full benefits/ins with that nice paying job.....screw it!

I'm just saying that I don't think a lot of people realize just how much of a dent it would make into everyone's daily lives if all illegals were shipped back .

I know what your saying but it MIGHT just be that those company CEO's might just have to make a few million less each year.

I work with a lady who came here legally from Colombia and it really upsets her that everyone can't follow the same procedure she had to follow to obtain her legal status.

I agree that everyone who comes here should follow the same rules and regs......BUT...the reality is it's not happened that way and for the last 12 yrs no one has bothered to try and change that.

Heres a list of who voted how-- and the flipfloppers...I gotta give my two Senators-Baucus and Tester- ATTA-BOYS again as they voted against the DREAM amnesty...I also understand from listening to the radio-- that minutes before the vote- the White House issued a statement opposing it

SEN. HUTCHISON (R-TEXAS) MAY CAUSE DREAM AMNESTY TO COME BACK UP?

Perhaps the darkest cloud on the horizon is that Sen. Hutchison and Sen. Durbin have already announced their intent to create a new DREAM amnesty as a substitute that might garner the extra votes for passage.

Hutchison's key concept seems to be that the illegal aliens would get the right to live here permanently, to work and to get in-state tuition but would never be allowed to become U.S citizens.

We'll see.

WHO SWITCHED SIDES FROM THE JUNE AMNESTY VOTE?

The final cloture vote for the Comprehensive Amnesty in June was 46-53. The amnesty side fell 14 votes short .

Today, it was only 8 votes short.

Here is what was different today:

---------------
TO THE BAD SIDE

8 Democrats switched to pro-amnesty after voting AGAINST the amnesty in June.

Bayh (D-Ind).
Bingaman (D-N.M.)
Brown (D-Ohio)
Harkin (D-Iowa)
Nelson (D-Neb.)
Rockefeller (D-W.Va.)
Stabenow (D-Mich.)
Webb (D-Va.)

They need your faxes of chastisement in hopes that they may return to the anti-illegal fold on the next votes. However, they are establishing a bad pattern. All of them voted last week in favor of sanctuary cities being able to refuse to cooperate in identifying illegal aliens within their boundaries. Any good will from their NO vote on the June amnety is fading fast.

----------------
TO THE GOOD SIDE

1 Democr a t switched to our side against the amnesty after voting FOR the June amnesty.

Conrad (D-N.D.)

This is an extremely welcome development. His fellow North Dakota Democratic Senator, Dorgan, has been one of our finest allies in protecting American workers from unfair foreign labor. But Sen. Conrad usually votes on the other side. He is not up for re-election next year. On the face of it, this switch would seem to be more about generally realligning with where the people of North Dakota are.
-----------------
TO THE BAD SIDE

1 Democrat who didn't vote in June voted FOR this amnesty.

Johnson (D-S.D.)

-----------------
TO THE BAD SIDE

1 Independent switched to pro-amnesty after voting AGAINST the June amnesty.

Sanders (I-Vt.)

------------------
TO THE BAD SIDE

5 Republicans switched to pro-amnesty after voting AGAINST the June Amnesty.

Brownback (R-Kan.)
Coleman (R-Minn.)
Collins (R-Maine)
Hatch (R-Utah)
Hutchison (R-Texas)

Brownback began to vote somewhat better on immigration once he entered the Presidential campaign and started talking to voters especially in Iowa. But he dropped out of the race last week. So, it appears he will go back to his championship for illegal immigration and foreign workers that he demonstrated before he started looking for votes nationally.

-------------------
TO THE GOOD SIDE

4 Republicans switched to our side against the amnesty after voting FOR the June amnesty.

Graham (R-S.C.)
Gregg(R-N.H.)
Kyl (R-Ariz.)
Specter (R-Pa.)

Those of you in those four states really hammered these Senators for their pro-amnesty votes in June. I think all four of them are wanting to have at least a somewhat different profile on immigration. This is the beinning of what may be a long path of rehabilitation. Let's hope so.

-------------------
HELPED US BY NOT VOTING

On a cloture vote requiring 60 votes, not showing up to vote has the same effect as voting NO. So we appreciated the fact that the following did not vote today. All four voted FOR the June amnesty.

Boxer (D-CA)
Dodd (D-Conn.)
Kennedy (D-Mass.)
McCain (R-Ariz.)

After burning up his phone with calls and computer with e-mails- I got this back from Senator Tester this morning...Glad to see he is doing what he was elected for- rather than following the Democrat goose step or the lobbiests dollars.....

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about S. 774, the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2007. Your suggestions and input are an important part of beginning to address some of the complex issues that we face.

I voted against the measure because I share your concerns that this would open up a path to citizenship for those who were here illegally. I have said it before, I do not support amnesty for people who have come here illegally.

When the Senate debates immigration reform proposals further, I will be sure to keep your views in mind. Please do not hesitate to contact me again in the future if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Jon Tester
United States Senator

Actually, this vote as a vote on cloture - whether or not to bring it up for a real vote. Senator Nelson is against the act, but voted for cloture because he thinks it will then get voted down.

Hagel, on the other hand, never did figure out that he was supposed to represent his constituent's wishes. Good thing he's leaving.
