"The largest part of the duty is 9 percent countervailing duty on charges of Canadian wheat being dumped in the U.S. market. Though wheat was sold at prevailing market values, the Commerce Department deemed that Canadian production costs were actually higher than the market value and that the wheat, was therefore, being dumped. The NAFTA panel has yet to make a finding on that topic." (From DTN News)
If this is grounds for a countervail duty, then why is heavily subsidized US corn coming duty-free into Ontario for under the board price at the local elevator? Especially at a time when there is no significant support program in place in spite of the lowest commodity prices in 25 years.
What we have in Canada is a gutless, mindless government that will sit with folded hands and watch the agricultural sector in Canada slide into the tank.
We have no leaders in this country..
