Another hurricane tracking thread - Ike

How about another hurricane tracking thread? This one is for "Ike" and I'm going to do it a little bit differently. At least, I HOPE it works like this...

I saved the current image for the predicted track as of the update at 8PM EDT Sunday. I put that image into my Photobucket account. That's the first image that you see and it shouldn't change.

Just below it is the image from the Hurricane Center that refreshes with every update. It will be the current predicted track at the time you check this post. It could potentially change several times per day.

That will give everybody a chance to come back to this thread after every update and see how far off the forecasters were in predicting the track. They were pretty accurate with Gustav, but sometimes they miss by 500 miles when storms are this far out and have to go over a land mass the size of Cuba.

Remember:

The first image is the track as predicted on Sunday night. The second one is the predicted track that refreshes several times per day and will be the most current prediction at the time you check this post.

Send this one north-dump 3-4" of rain up here.... We could stand a little flooding.... :)

I heard a fellow the other day say that the one good thing about hurricanes is it gets all the politicians out of our hair up north here for a few days- they all head south to get in the way and get their pictures took...

Maybe it'll make it to you, Oldtimer. I was really hoping this one would turn more west and go into South Texas far enough down to give them a good rain where they need it. You'll have to wait your turn.

Last I heard was that it was back over water- moving really slow-strengthening- and heading toward Houston now- but still could go anywhere between N.O. and Mexico......

Yeah, it looks to be tracking a little bit more into Texas all the time. Some of the forecasters are saying that it still might turn back north at some point after it makes landfall, so you might still get your share of it.

How often do you actually see any tropical moisture in your area?

We get quite a bit that shoots in from the Pacific (out of Mexico)- and every few years get a good shot of the hurricane moisture out of the gulf as it peters out going north..
The last really big blast I remember was in 1987- when in mid October one came north- dumped 4 inches here- 6-8 inches upriver from us and we got a very rare fall flood on the lower Milk River...

I sure do dread the "gettin prepared" part of these storms. Uhggggg...hafta go buy groceries, fuel, and anything else that we think we might need. If it tracks where the current map shows, we'll definately be on the wet side of this one.

BUT....I need the rain. And somehow it always seems to miss my little place. Few weeks back we got enough to make things recover a bit, but I'm way short.
