The blogs and pundits are getting a good laugh over this GW idea of sending Cheney to try and get lower oil/gas prices ...Another Fox sent to guard the Henhouse  :( ...
Its being pointed out that Cheney (who was a former corporate CEO with oil holdings) is the father of GW's energy policy- after having supersecret meetings with all the Oil executives (including their buddy Ken Lay  )- meetings that resulted in what many feel was a policy written by the Oil execs, for the benefit of the Oil Companies-- and of which Bush/Cheney refuse to release the minutes or notes of  :(

This GW administration policy that took gas prices from $1.40 a gallon in 2000 at the start of GW's term to $3.20 a gallon now  :( - and that has resulted in the major Oil Corporations reporting record high earnings with record high salaries/bonus's for their CEO's (all old Cheney buddies) ...

So who will Cheney be representing in these OPEC country meetings

Cheney to urge Saudi Arabia to cool oil prices via OPEC crude production boost
03.10.08, 10:24 AM ET

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - US Vice-President Dick Cheney will urge key OPEC member Saudi Arabia next week to push the oil cartel to boost output in an effort to rein in sky-high prices, the White House said.

OPEC, which is responsible for around 40 pct of global crude supplies, held production quota levels unchanged when it met in Vienna last Wednesday, claiming the market is well supplied with crude.

The cartel ignored a last-ditch warning from US President George Bush on Tuesday, who pointed out it would be a 'mistake' for OPEC not to increase supplies, with the world's largest oil-consuming economy already under duress.

OPEC has consistently blamed the recent run-up in prices on financial speculation and weakness in the US dollar rather than a constrained supply.

Oil prices hit an all-time record of 106.54 usd per barrel in New York on Friday.

Do you really believe Bush and/or Cheney has any influence on gasoline prices in the USA?

Do you have more inside info than the Democratic Party pertaining to this?

Don't you think the whistle would have been blown by now?

Yes. It was their energy policy that brought this on

Details please. I say you're full of $hit.

Gasoline is sold on the open market. They can get not one penney more for it than we're (or anyone else is) willing to pay.

Now, I do agree that the Iraq war has burnt some fuel, but most of that fuel would have been burned during military maneuvers anyway.

And thats the reason Oil Companies have made higher profits than any corporate industry in history :???:

If you think OPEC and the oil cartels are the open market- you're the one full of something...

US military energy consumption- facts and figures
by Sohbet Karbuz

As the saying goes, facts are many but the truth is one. The truth is that the U.S. military is the single largest consumer of energy in the world. But as a wise man once said, don't confuse facts with reality. The reality is that even U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) does not know precisely where and how much energy it consumes. This is my Fact Zero.

Below I give some facts and figures on U.S. military oil consumption based mostly on official statistics.[1] If you want to reproduce them make sure you read every footnote even if you need to put on your glasses. Also read the footnotes in this article.

FACT 1: The DoD's total primary energy consumption in Fiscal Year 2006 was 1100 trillion Btu. It corresponds to only 1% of total energy consumption in USA. For those of you who think that this is not much then read the next sentence.

Nigeria, with a population of more than 140 million, consumes as much energy as the U.S. military.

The DoD per capita[2] energy consumption (524 trillion Btu) is 10 times more than per capita energy consumption in China, or 30 times more than that of Africa.

The US military oil consumption
by Sohbet Karbuz

The US Department of Defense (DoD) is the largest oil consuming government body in the US and in the world

“Military fuel consumption makes the Department of Defense the single largest consumer of petroleum in the U.S” [1]

“Military fuel consumption for aircraft, ships, ground vehicles and facilities makes the DoD the single largest consumer of petroleum in the U.S”
[2]

According to the US Defense Energy Support Center Fact Book 2004, in Fiscal Year 2004, the US military fuel consumption increased to 144 million barrels. This is about 40 million barrels more than the average peacetime military usage.

By the way, 144 million barrels makes 395 000 barrels per day, almost as much as daily energy consumption of Greece.

The US military is the biggest purchaser of oil in the world.

In 1999 Almanac edition of the Defense Logistic Agency’s news magazine Dimensions it was stated that the DESC “purchases more light refined petroleum product than any other single organization or country in the world. With a $3.5 billion annual budget, DESC procures nearly 100 million barrels of petroleum products each year. That's enough fuel for 1,000 cars to drive around the world 4,620 times.”

That budget increased a lot over the years. The US DoD spent $8.2 billion on energy in fiscal year 2004.

“In fiscal 2005, DESC will buy about 128 million barrels of fuel at a cost of $8.5 billion, and Jet fuel constitutes nearly 70 percent of DoD's petroleum product purchases.” says American Forces Information Service News Article by G. J. Gilmore. [3]

For some, this is not enough though. Here is what a report from Office of Under Secretary of Defense says “Because DOD’s consumption of oil represents the highest priority of all uses, there will be no fundamental limits to DOD’s fuel supply for many, many decades.” [4]

American GI is the most energy-consuming soldier ever seen on the field of war

“The Army calculated that it would burn 40 million gallons of fuel in three weeks of combat in Iraq, an amount equivalent to the gasoline consumed by all Allied armies combined during the four years of World War I.” [1]

I see.

Didn't mean to put that up, did ya?

Gasoline in the USA is ALL sold on the open market, each and every day.

When the Conoco on the corner drops their price to say, $2.75 per gallon, the EXXON across the street has to match it or not sell gas.

We could all stop driving and reduce prices overnight, but we won't.

Cheney to urge Saudi Arabia to cool oil prices via OPEC crude production boost

Oil prices hit an all-time record of 106.54 usd per barrel in New York on Friday.

And after those meetings with the oil executives a Cogressional investigation took place and they(some of the oil execs) were asked if they were present when Cheney was formulating the energy policy. Guess what, they either couldn't remember or denied being present. Anyways lying to a Congressional committee whether under oath or not is a serious crime but our US attorney at the time just looked the other way. Imagine that.
