Paul Broun: Evolution, Big Bang 'Lies Straight From The Pit Of Hell'
The Huffington Post | By Alana Horowitz Posted: 10/06/2012 10:24 am EDT Updated: 10/08/2012 10:44 am EDT

Congressman Paul Broun (R-Ga.) said last week that evolution and the big bang theory are "lies straight from the pit of Hell."
"God's word is true. I've come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the big bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell," said Broun, who is an MD. "It's lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior."

He continued:

"You see, there are a lot of scientific data that I've found out as a scientist that actually show that this is really a young Earth. I don't believe that the earth's but about 9,000 years old. I believe it was created in six days as we know them. That's what the Bible says."

According to NBC News, Broun's comments were part of a larger speech given at the 2012 Sportsman's Banquet at Liberty Baptist Church in Hartwell, Georgia on September 27th. A clip of the video was distributed by the The Bridge Project, a liberal watchdog group.

Broun is a high-ranking member of the House Science Committee, of which Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) is also a member.

Akin made headlines last month for suggesting that women don't get pregnant from "legitimate rape" because their bodies have "ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

Where is the Repubs finding these nutcases :???: And it seems like now they are all crawling out of the closet...

Even most Repubs and rightwingers on the web are getting a laugh out of this fella....If he, Romney, and Akin get their way they won't only be banning Big Bird, they will be banning geology, biology, anthropology, archeaology, paleontogy, speculative physics and tearing down all our Montana dinosaur museums- since it can't exist if they can't explain it ..

Good thing he has a job as a a Congressman- can you imagine anyone wanting to be treated by a medical doctor that doesn't believe in modern science ?

I missed it. Where did he say he did not believe in modern science?? He actually refers to himself as a scientist. Maybe he just studies on a little deeper level than you.

The man has an opinion. Does that make him a nut?? No more than your opinions necessarily make you a nut although many would disagree with presumption also.

OT do you profess any christian beliefs or affiliation with any organized church or religion?

How do your Muslim pals explain geology, biology, anthropology, etc., etc.?? Your great prophet never said anything about any of that. When your dream comes true and Sharia law rules the land, I predict you will have an "Oh, Schitt" moment. Living like it was 700AD won't be as wonderful as you imagine. But it'll be too late by then.

Allahu Akbar!

So the guy has his own opinions, what's your point?
Gee, the other side claims they can predict the weather 100 years from now, based on a few cars on the planet... While at the same time they couldn't seem to acurately predict what the temperature was going to be last night...okay, well they were within 10 degrees anyway

So does this mean the model T caused the glaciers to recede and form the Great Lakes :???:
What man made inventions did cause all of the previous heating and cooling cycles in history?

......But, I thought the scientists/humanists had ALL the answers :???:

CF we have a heck of a lot of theory....but not all theory is science. When you keep getting different results or greatly varying results it is not science. It's not even research. It's more like doodling with a pencil.

Speaking of nutcases. This Montana Law is an "OFFENSES AGAINST THE FAMILY" type of law.

TITLE 45. CRIMES
CHAPTER 5. OFFENSES AGAINST THE PERSON
Part 6. Offenses Against the Family
45-5-601. Prostitution.

(1) A person commits the offense of prostitution if the person engages in or agrees or offers to engage in sexual intercourse with another person for compensation, whether such compensation is received or to be received or paid or to be paid.

(2) (a) A prostitute convicted of prostitution shall be fined an amount not to exceed $500 or be imprisoned in the county jail for a term not to exceed 6 months, or both.
(b) A prostitute's client who is convicted of prostitution shall for the first offense be fined an amount not to exceed $1,000 or be imprisoned for a term not to exceed 1 year, or both, and for a second or subsequent offense shall be fined an amount not to exceed $10,000 or be imprisoned for a term not to exceed 5 years, or both.

I don't recall any of them wanting to "ban" any of those things.

What I do recall is tht Romney would like to eliminate the gov't funding of PBS----I like PBS, and PBS is "Public" and their funding is provided (quite a bit of it) by donations from private citizens, corporations and the like.

Petition calls for Broun’s removal from Science panel for doubting evolution

By Pete Kasperowicz - 10/09/12 08:44 AM ET
More than 58,000 people had signed a petition as of Tuesday morning asking that Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) be removed from the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee after his comment that the theories of evolution and the Big Bang are "lies straight from the pit of hell."

In a speech to a Georgia congregation in late September, Broun also said he believes the Earth is only about 9,000 years old.

A petition set up on change.org states simply that Broun "does not believe in the most basic tenets of scientific process and critical thought."

"He is incompetent scientifically and damages the Committee with his presence,"
it adds.

The petition was started on Saturday, when news of Broun's comments broke, and by Tuesday morning, it had the support of 58,186 people across the country, and was continuing to add supporters by the hour.

There you go....if you don't believe an ant can become an elephant, or did the elephant become an ant?..... then you are obviously stupid. I wonder how many of these ''believers'' ever actually read Darwin, and know the actual title to the book of their blind worship.

While the guy has the right to believe and express his beliefs on whatever---I don't believe that anyone that doesn't believe in widely accepted scientific issues should be appointed to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space, and Technology... The Congressional leadership should use more sense than to have him and Todd Akin on the committee...

Especially when Broun so strongly opposes and does not believe in embryology which is a major genetic development tool anymore in the livestock business....

I agree with what Bill Nye- The Science guy had to say:
"Since the economic future of the United States depends on our tradition of technological innovation, Representative Broun's views are not in the national interest," Nye told The Huffington Post in an email. "For example, the Earth is simply not 9,000 years old," he continued, contradicting a remark made by Broun later in the video. "He is, by any measure, unqualified to make decisions about science, space, and technology."

yep didn't you know "silence anyone who doesn't agree with you"
heck I could go to downtown Atlanta and offer free hotdogs and get more than 58000 takers and I wouldn't even have to bus em in from across the US

"Young Earth" believers have been around as long as I can remember. They didn't just appear recently on the scene.

One of the arguments in favor of a "Young Earth" was the lack of "Transitional" evolutionary fossils that have been avoiding science for a number of years, and that "Evolution" is a theory not yet proven as fact.

I don't believe in the 9,000 - 10,000 year age of earth but cannot grasp totally the 5-10 BILLION year age either.

Seems as though the "flat earth" theory was the main scientific belief just a few hundred years ago? The point is.............be careful who's ideas you back 100%. They could be just half right and could make you totally wrong.
