Another Republican Senator

Another Republican Senator has said Iraq is a mess, possibly "criminal". Gee, I can't imagine what's taking them so long. I guess he doesn't want to have Iraq hanging over his head in '08. Entire article; link below; my emphasis.

"Oregon Republican Senator Gordon Smith -- who voted in favor of the Iraq war and has supported it ever since -- now says the current U.S. war effort is "absurd" and "may even be criminal."

In a major speech on the Senate floor last night, the Oregon senator called for rapid pullouts of U.S. troops from Iraq.

Smith says he would have never voted for the conflict if he had known the intelligence that President Bush gave the American people was inaccurate.

Smith says he is "at the end of my rope."

Smith, who is up for re-election in 2008, says he wants his constituents to know what is in his heart.

While expressing grave doubts about the Iraq war, Smith said he does not believe the United States can retreat from the larger war on terror."

That could have a lot to do with his change in heart...

I'd say the ship is down by the stern about now-- all the Repub rats are scrambling to save themselves- and they'll gladly let Captain Bush go down with his ship........

I think it's pretty clear that if something doesn't happen to get us out of Iraq in the next year, the Republicans will have a very hard time in 2008. I can't tell you how angry it makes me to see young Americans die every day while Bush is trying desperately to cover his arse in this thing.

Having a little problem with your formating? Maybe it comes because you're ignoring the fact that Senator Smith has been a staunch supporter of the Iraq war up until now? He won't be the last Republican to turn on the President, just as Dems turned on LBJ during Vietnam.
