Another Voterless Election?

HARRISONBURG, Va. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has won the support of a majority of delegates up for grabs at a GOP convention in Virginia, delegates that could help decide the Republican presidential nominee if there's a contested national convention this summer.

Cruz supporters won 10 of the 13 at-large delegates elected Saturday at the Republican Party of Virginia's statewide convention at James Madison University in Harrisonburg.

Republican front-runner Donald Trump won the other three.

Cruz's victory will only matter if he can block Trump from clinching the nomination before the national convention in July. Virginia delegates will only be free to support whomever they choose after the first round of voting at the national convention.

this story isn't quite true... or should i say.. leaves alot out.. first most of the delegates were already pledged to the winner Trump

Donald J. Trump 355,960 34.7% 17(delegates)

The preferences were for how the delegates would vote if Trump does not win a majority on the first ballot in the national convention. In the first ballot, Virginia's delegation will vote in proportion to the primary results.

Absolutely, Steve. Too bad too many for too long have forgotten that fact.

I really doubt that we are a REPUBLIC is taught in schools today.

Of course we're a Republic, but if the primary delegates eventually end up putting someone in the general election that wasn't chosen by the number of party voters, then we become more like the Republic of China. I have a hard time buying that that's what the founders intended.

Actually, we are a Representative Republic. And when the Representatives think they know better than the voters that chose them who the Pres is, we are REALLY in trouble.

But we are a Democracy in many instances. Voters in each state choose their own governors, hold statewide referendums on issues, etc.
