I got the impression they ate mostly browse because of where you see them. Example There can be an irrigated alfalfa field on the one side of the road and no antelope on it but on the other side of the road where its basically desert with just old sage brush and tumble weeds and there you will see all the antelope. I have noticed this time and time again when driving in WY and MT.
Like I said before im no antelope expert. We dont have antelope in SW Alberta. I have only hunted them once in my life. But why do we have antelope east of here and no antelope where I live? I just guessed it was because our range was to good for them. To much lush grass up to your stirrups. Not enough old brush and weeds around here for antelope

Most of the places I've lived that had goatalopes would feed them out on winter wheat. They really seemed to enjoy that stuff...

Boy if you run into a moose cow with calves-get the heck away from her-way worse than a sow bear for sure. Surprised nobody in farm country has had a wreck with the moose that have moved in lately.

A friend of mine was a cook in a restaurant in Sundre AB. This was in the winter and she had to walk to work real early in the morning in the dark. This was right in down town Sundre. She went down an alley way and a lone moose was in the alley. Anyway I dont know but I think she scared the moose. The moose was facing her when she startled it. Anyway the moose ran her down and kept on going. Broke the womans leg.
It was actually I funny story but you all would have to know the woman that it happened to to get the Joke.
Anyway your right Northern about cows with calves. I could tell lots of stories about them.
Most of their victims are idiots in Banff and Jasper. They dont want to scare off the tourests so they dont publicize it much. That Alberta Game Warden magazine is interesting reading.
