My wife and folks are always naggin' me to wear gloves in the winter 'cause I rarely do. From workin' rigs when I was younger I guess. They just don't feel the bite like they used to. But when I'm huntin or ridin, those military surplus 'shooters' mitts are the way to go. Especially when you'll pick 'em up for pennies compared to brand name stuff. I make a trip to the surplus place once a year. It's a 2-hour drive from here, but they're worth it.
I had a pair of those when I was a derrick-hand. When you're 75' in the air at -45 degrees and a wind blowin', you figure out real quick which stuff works and what don't.
