Anybody ever work on one of these?

Just talked to a mechanic. There is a plate between the boom and the cab that allows "better" access than how I started.

He had changed one a while back and said it was a B#$%^ and then told me to have fun.
I asked if it was possible to find the Japanese engineer that designed this machine and I could push him in there to take it off. Apparently that option is not available.

I've found out that repair manuals are invaluable in time like these especially on compact machinery. Sometimes the what seems like the logical way to fix something isn't the right way. I found that out replacing a starter on my Bobcat skid steer.

You could just send it down here and I'll fix it and bring it back when I get done with it in a few years or so.

Well if you've found the fanbelt you are just a step away from the alt  ............don't ya just love it when a failed part is the one they built an entire machine around! Design engineers should be forced to spend their apprenticeship out in the field doing repair work before they're ever allowed to start drafting designs!

AMEN-- I used to always say that when working on the combine!!!!

When all else fails Mr Lilly always comes and gets me to reach off into tight places like that cuz my arms/hands are smaller. :?
I'm guilty of doing the same thing to my wife. I have to borrow her eyes a lot more often these days, too.

50 days, a 2500 mile - 17 day "holiday", curses, grunts and a crook in my neck and the Japanese ditch digger is running (and charging).

Have to admit that I've been a fair weather mechanic and that there have been several other fair weather priorities in front of finishing this one. I found an alternator right in Williams Lake for a small sum of $380.

Now we can start putting up the new log fence we were planning 2 months ago.
My FIL's favourite saying is fix somethin' to fix somethin' to fix somethin' to do somethin'.
