Several of the local guys have been trying to talk me into going with them to the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton...Local fellas son, Jess Martin, is sitting up in the top 3 or 4 in the bronc riding less than $2000 behind Mortenson who's sitting #1...

Doubt if I'll make it tho as thats a busy shipping time- and I think its shorter to drive to Vegas than Edmonton  Vegas is probably cheaper too if you stay away from the tables.....

It's a pretty good time up there last time I went-I eloped and got married so you might not want to try that. You'll see better broincs on the average than you will in Vegas-picture the eliminator pen every night. It's worth a trip just to see Jess or Dan maybe get on 'Cool Alley' or something like that. If your short a little coin for tickets I'm sure us Ranchers.net boys can pass the hat-we'd hate to see an old R-Calfer miss out on a chance to eat some great Canadian beef.

C'mon up. Edmonton's a great city! Been there myself many a time, always found lots to see and do. I've always wanted to go when Farmfair was on, check out the cattle, see the rodeo, but like you say, it's a pretty busy time of the year. But I'm sure you could sneak away for a few days, yes?

Welcome to Canada, Oldtimer.

I was in Edmonton 40 some years ago-- 4 of us chartered a plane and we flew from Havre up for a rodeo, and even flying it seemed like it took forever....Must be close to the north pole

Like my kid has been saying- at least if we go to Vegas for the NFR we can get away from the snow and cold for a few days...I think he's hoping Jess qualifies for the NFR (in 15th place right now) and is trying to get me to go south instead...

Greg and I go to the finals every year...its a great time OT. The tickets aren't a bad price and there are several hotels that cater to the rodeo fans...Greg and I stay right downtown and take the LRT,come down, you would enjoy it. A number of people we know have tickets for both CFR and NFR but like the smaller hometown Rodeo feel of Edmonton. Think about it :)

Oh ya,OT,if you or your friends are thinking of coming and your buying your tickets individually, which I suspect you have to now, cause too late for fanfare tickets. Sat has two performances, afternoon and eve. I'd skip the afternoon and go the eve. Reason being Sat. afternoon. is family performance and its geared totally to kids.

I might even take the 8hr drive south to the CFR myself this year. Sure enjoyed the trip last time. 'Course it's right in deer season, so I might just stay right here in God's country.
