Are you getting moisture now HD? The low pressure is right where it should dump on you today. We are in a heavy drizzle down here right now but the low is right over Bassano which should be good for you. Thank you Montana for sliding the low on up. Maybe I should whine about how cold it is coming out of the US, hey OT?

Yes Per, we are getting a nice drizzle; it started at around 8:30 this morning. At first I didn't recognize what the heck that wet stuff coming down form the sky was..

Rain gage says 6mm so far and that 20 cm of snow that is supposed to fall later tonight and tomorrow as that will sure make a big difference here.. Things are already starting to turn green and there are puddles in the drive way too.

Now I need to bed down the babies and get the feeders full. I cannot believe I am looking forward to a winter storm warning in April.. Just hope the power doesn't go off as hubby was working on the generator last week and I don't know if he got it all fixed yet..

We got the snow and the wind, mu purple marting house is dangling on it's side .. Need to get it down and fixed before they show up. I heard highways were closed last in this morning. So far we have gotten 4cm's and it is mucky . Took a few pics and will post them later, huge difference from the 25th. Have to get out and move cattle as where they were is now mud.

The bad thing about finally getting moisture after a drought, is that our log home ,the wood and sealing shrunk really bad last summer so we had major leaks through the sealing of the walls on the north side that we were scrambling to seal. Have a temp fix for now but hubby is going to finish it this afternoon. I lost two painting that were my great grandfathers ,that have just to much rain damage from the leaking to restore.. :(

NR if you are travelling ,have a safe trip and be careful the roads are still slick and more snow is on the way..

That's too bad Hillsdown. Hopefully you get it all sealed back up soon. What are you using for chinking? The stuff we used is pretty flexible.

Silver we are using that stuff that has like an oil texture to it and is kind of fuzzy. Sorry, cannot remember the name of it. It is meant for log homes though and then we are using a silicate seal where the Beams Come through from the outside. We should have redone everything last year when we had no rain.

I really think we should get professional in though to redo all the windows and the "sealings" both outside and inside ..

Sorry about the damage from the leaks! But WHAAAAHOOOOOO for you on some moisture!!! :D It always is amazing when it has been dry, to feel the fisrt drops or flakes land on your face. You just can't help but grin. A LOT!!! :D The peaks and valleys of life on a ranch are so spectacular. I always appreciate the warm of spring after the cold of January. I love feeling of fall after a sweaty July! If it rained all the time and dryed up right when we needed it, it would take a lot away from this lifestyle. And more importantly, it would take away a lot from my relationship with the Lord. I need his help every day, dry or damp. If the weather was perfect I'd sure get forgetful of who's in charge. Or else I'd be living in Florida! One or the other! Anyway, hope the storms keep coming your way. Sorry to sound too preachy as that werent my intent. :D

I understand what you are saying H, and I am very grateful that we finally got something here.

Here are a few pics, not as spectacular as my fellow Albertans have taken from the last snow fall, but hey, the ground is finally wet.. :D

The water hole to the north of the house .There is now water standing(for now) .

My garden and front yard after a few hours when the slow drizzle started the grass started to turn green right away.

Good to see you got some moisture. I lost a calf last night due to the storm. That is way better than loosing some historic art. Sorry for your loss. The power has been out since 10 last night and they just said it will be at least another day. Good thing for generators. :)

Log houses are a different animal for sure. For starters, they have a lot of moving parts :? But I think they are worth it. I would like to see some pics of it some time, I always enjoy looking at log houses.
Glad to see you got some moisture, we got skunked

So sorry you lost some antique pictures, happy you got rain.
Golly, seems like there is always a trade-off somewhere.

I really like the looks of the country you live in...especially
when it looks wet. Thanks for the photos.

Thanks everyone.
Per sorry about your calf. I hope everyone is alright now and you have your power back again. Your area got hit really hard with that heavy wet snow and wind.
I might be able to save one of the paintings, it will depend on the cost to restore it though.

Silver you are so right about log homes ,they are beautiful, but sure need a lot of TLC. These are the only pics I have on PB of our home. It is a pine log home and the pine was imported from Quebec it was built in 1982 I think. The upstairs is all soft pine flooring. It is not that big only, 2300 square feet, but big enough for the two of us and a few 4 legged kids. What I love is that the design is wide open .

This was before we put on new cedar shakes in '04.

This pic is from that beautiful snow storm we got in 'May of '07 . The power was out for a day and we spent a couple of weeks cleaning up trees. I brought everyone back to the main quarter when I heard the forecast, and buked them down with lots of feed and bedding, so the cattle did very well. My neighbors weren't so lucky they had already moved their cattle to summer pasture a few miles away and lost quite a few calves.

No more rain in the forecast until Monday and then they say snow again, I sure hope so.

That's a beautiful house Hillsdown! Wow. Thanks for sharing. I'm a big fan of the open floor plan as well. From a building standpoint it was sure a lot less drywall and framing too :D
