Ready to brand calves
Roper ready and rarin' to go
Brady and Rena
Calf caught and waiting for me to quit taking pictures so I could apply a branding iron.
We do 27 calves per draft, because that is how many doses of vaccine can be placed in a gun.
Brady's turn to rope
Kosmo Kid sharpening his knife
Peach loading a vaccine gun
Goose waiting his turn to drag calves.
The Kosmo Kid's very nice bride, Sweet Potato.
Rena roping calves
Peach loading another vaccine gun.
The wind howled this morning, but the afternoon turned out to be very nice. We seized the opportunity to brand 83 calves after the noon meal. We worked the 83 calves in just a little over two hours, after the cows were sorted away from the calves.
