Are feedlots "Producers"?

Brad that's pretty good advice.

I basically did that this past year. I had an opportunity to sell my heifers at a decent price so I did it. First time in many years I didn't breed open heifers.

I never talked with the banker about what I was doing, I don't even know what suit they have assigned me to now. I just know the bank doesn't complain if I have a large inventory and the money keeps rolling.

Nearly every expense I have had this year is to increase inventory. No toys or useless buys.

If dad had done this years ago I wouldn't have to do it now. Oh well.

Denny, if the welding is paying the way, keep on keeping on. I know that having a source of funds can change the dynamic of keeping heifers. Brad is right, but your system can work too.

And Brad I have been caught a couple times on the fancy cattle

when prices are high you can sell 1/2 the calves and pay the bills when prices are low you need to sell more to pay the bills so in my thinking right now I don't need all the money from every calf when their cheap I may.

Also livestock trailers sell REAL well when prices are high but when cattle prices are low you can't hardly give one away.So the way my income works this way works best.

Good enough reasoning Denny. It is tough to argue with what works.

It's just nice if a guy can get to the point where he can build in the downturn and sell in the upturn.

Taxes and cashflow usually interfere with that plan, and thus the cycle continues.

Badlands,

Thanks a ton. I was just in a thread elsewhere and used your information....Hmmm...Girls developing early now days....I could say the use of Soy Oil in Fries has gone way up and Beef Oil down....I think the average person has more calories available now than they used to and that has as much to do with early development and expanding wastelines as anything...Well that and a more sedentary lifestyle
