Are They ALL (both sides) Racist?

WASHINGTON (AP) — Alabama voters were deeply divided along racial lines in Tuesday's presidential election, according to an Associated Press exit poll.

Black voters almost universally supported Democrat Barack Obama, while more than eight in 10 whites backed Republican John McCain.

By comparison, Obama won more than 40 percent of the white vote nationally and also the vast majority of black voters. His support among whites in Alabama was slightly lower than what Democrat John Kerry won in 2004, continuing a downward slide for Democrats in the state.

Which side is racist?

You know Mike, I'll bet you, like me, know people on both sides of this fence that you wouldn't give the time of day, to put it mildly. But I hope we both know some good people also, on both sides.

My point is that racism is not dead and will not be killed by this election. In fact, it will be perpetuated further.

Racism cannot be legislated away.

Racism can only be eliminated by the ones who feel discriminated against by gaining the respect of those doing the discriminating.

Tell me, what is the first image that comes to mind when the words "Gang-Banger" is mentioned?

Is it of a white middle class student, or a ghetto thug?

Perception is reality..................................

Mike the fact that blacks elected the first black president is not racist,it's the first time in history we had a chance to elect someone that looks like us.Lot's of white people are responsible for putting him in office also.I'll agree we have a lot of work on race relations, and were not about to start a new rosy chapter on race a day after elections, but those of us with hope that work toward it ,see something positive coming in the future. You're either part of the problem,or part of the solution. We all need to practice more tolerence and understanding toward each other.I saw not one person of color at McCains rally, not one.But everyone showed up at Obamas rally, all different ethnicities, mostly white since there's more white people in this country, but very unifiying in my estimation. What do you think of when you hear "hick or Redneck".I grew up in the city and there's plenty of White thugs in the ghetto belive you me.And when folks of all colors see a black cowboy they probably did'nt think there where black country boys or Hicks if you will.

I respect and understand your position.......TOTALLY!

I also understand your dilemma of not fitting in any particular stereotype.

But to say that your race in general does not fit within the parameters of a stereotypical assessment is only an illusion.

To first remedy any problematic situation, you must recognize both sides of the issue.

Bill Cosby comes to mind. When he speaks out against some of the problems within the black race, he is chastised and called an "Uncle Tom" by the black spokesmen.

His only intent is to help and create an awareness to aid in raising the perceptions of the black race, which will go much farther to eliminate discrimination than denying the problems he speaks of actually exist.

You have your work cut out for you son, and I wish you well. But by telling me there are no problems within your race will only make your obfuscations more obvious.

Yes, we have problems within the white race also. But I don't think you would hear anyone deny it.....................................

I will admit that I have racist tendancies, and I steriotype people too much. but in my opinion, the Rev Al and Jessie types do more to keep racism alive than I do. they feed off of the hate they stir, and use it to keep them in the power loop.

I dislike Obama for his ideas, not his skin. but I hate the way so many fell to the fast talking fool, and voted JUST because of his skin color. on both sides of the voting.
if we want equality, then end welfare. if the govt is not handing EVERYONE cash, then no one needs it. end the fat cat retirement and health care the senators and congressmen get...if it is not good enough for us all, then to hell with just them getting it.

there are many ways each of us are segregated against every day. but with Obama being black, they focused on it.

to his credit the other day,I heard Obama call himself the first black candidate. this made me a bit happy. because I can not stand it when people call it African - American or Cuban- American ..... if you are so proud of your heritage that you need a hypenated American title, then take your ass back to where you came from. this is AMERICA. blend in or get OUT !

Jigs I agree with you on the hyphenated names. I think it was Whoopi Goldberg that said the same thing although I could be wrong. Lets face it we all could have hyphenated names. And as you said if you are that proud of your heritage go back and make that country you're so proud of the best it can be. I think its one of those "politically correct" things that has been taken too far. It actually separates us more than it unites us imo.

The problem is that Boo Rock ain't BLACK. He is 50% caucasian, and the remainder is overwhelmingly ARAB. BIG, BIG difference.

Kinda like calling a red whiteface cow with less than 10% Angus, an Angus.

The Appaloosa folks tried this a long time ago and pretty well killed the breed.

I got the biggest laugh about no Blacks at McCains rally. Of course not they are tascists and were at bamers. I sure wish some people would engage their thinking befor they opened their mouth. Oh well they just reinforced the fact that most blacks were rascist in their support.
