Are Women under paid?

Seems some study about women not making as much money as men has been on news a bunch lately.

So what do you think, do women make as much money as men or are they discriminated against in Salary?

Or is it just some more Liberal media hype?

Canadians please reply in regards your country, is this a problem for our northern friends?

I feel there are two types of women. those who know and appreciate their role in life, And those who want to be men. A woman is NOT a man, so why do they deserve the same pay? If they can do the job as well, then pay them. if they do not like being under payed, then go home and raise a family like they are meant to do. watching this unfold leads me to the conclusion that some of these femi-nazi's will never be happy until they get their very own twig and berries!

As much as I want to disagree with Jigs (just cuz, it's fun to get his banana thong in a twist ), he is bang on the money. As a hard working tough nut of a female. No matter how hard I try I will never be as strong as a guy. What a guy can do with strength and muscle I have to figure out a lever system or pulley to get the same job done. Can I get it done you betcha, but it takes a whole different way of doing it. As an employer I would not pay me the same amount of money because it would take me longer. Now if you are talking about a job requiring management skills, a women without children should be paid the same or more. I find for the most part women are more ruthless in business and have less honor. They tend to get to the top killing the competition. Women with kids, should be raising their kids period. I worked corporate for years, I would NEVER want to be one of those women. I have too much heart, losing kindness and loyalty is not something I would ever give up to get to the top. Men seem to be able to retain those qualities all the way to the top.

I think many times them studies they do are not really comparing Apples to Apples. It seems most women I know that do the exact same job get paid the same. Example: A third year English teacher at the same school man or woman would get the same money. A cashier at the local store with same seniority would be making the same. At a local ammunition plant if you shovel the powder you will make the same man or woman.

I think where the figures get fudged is they do not compare the exact same jobs to each other. If they say women CEO's do not make as much as men CEO's that might be because they are CEO's of smaller Corporations. The question was do they make less money than the previous Man CEO of that exact company?

Women many times taken on the lower paying jobs because they supplement their Husbands job. So when looking at statistics it would seem they make less money. Much like if you looked at how much Teens or 20 somethings make they would also make less money than most men.

The other thing that Judith touched on. Reliability...............a man isn't going to have to take time off because he is pregnant and most likely not becuse he has to take the rugrat to the doc for a checkup.

Good point Passin thru. Employers want employees who will show up at work not call in for sick children etc. When I was a Customer Services Manager it was infuriating to have at least one person from each department call in "sick" on the weekends. Often the children or their period was the excuse. I might be making women angry with my comments but they are from experience and are truthful. Men do call into work with the 48 ounce flu just as regularly. Or even worse come to work still drunk and puke all over the store

If they come to work drunk or a hangover, do like my dad did. He found the sweatiest, noisiest, smelliest job he could. That was a pretty good for future references.

Is having your period an acceptable excuse for missing work? PMS could have some women missing 5 days a month.

Maybe one day big business will start synchronizing the women and then give the guys a couple days off a month. Maybe we should start marketing CIDR's for women

Lol,this is quite humorous. In Alberta woman are paid fair enough.because I work in health we're run by a Union, actually a good Unioun at that, yup know its hard to believe but look up A.U.P.E,it will tell you the things its done for its members...from having decent roads built for workers driving on them to setting up a trust fund for a little girl whos daddy murdered her preg mommy...a nurse with our union. Our wages, benefits and pension plans are all fought for by the union.

Alot of what Judith says is true, really my family trumps my job as it should so I truly don't think working moms are as dedicated to thier jobs as the men are. I can truly say I never used 'THAT"as an excuse for missing work...a childs track meet yup

Will you people who have daughters send them to University to get a degree if they so desire?.....If so why? All it will do is give them a taste of adventure and they may want to make something of themselves one day. Also they are taking spots away from males trying to get into university,lol...It is sad to to see so many give up on women over strength..I Have seen many women out work men in physical demanding jobs before...It is not always just strength but attitude too, there are many lazy men out there stealing wages from companies ..If she wants to be a house wife that is fine but as far as paying people equally why not? If they cannot do the job either male or female, let them go.Would you keep a useless worker just because he is male? How many jobs left out there that require strength of only a man? All people should be judged on production and effort, without both, neither man or women will be of much use to any employer,no matter their wage.

Should not a man's family trump his job too? Just because your a mom does not deam you a bad employee....It is sad that men are expected to not care about track meets and such....Why can't both family finical intrests be covered by both husband and wife as well as important family activities.

Sad to see people who can't recognize a little tongue in cheek humour-I've got three daughters and all are expected to go to university and push on. This Dad has been to more track meets, soccer games, baseball games, hockey rinks, fall fairs, school plays, day hikes, after scool writer's club, winter carnivals etc than I can shake a stick at.Of course if women do the same job at the same level as a man they should be paid the same. I know when I coach against girls in hockey they get treated the same-if you want to lace them up and play with the boys there's no turning into a girlie girl when the hitting starts lol. a woman should advance on her performance at work not just because she's a woman-that happens to I'm afraid.
