Arizona signs tough immigration bill despite criticism

Next up, the "birther" bill. It's about time the States started to take responsibility for issues that Congress refuses to address.

Arizona's governor has signed into law an immigration bill seen as one of the toughest in the US, despite strong criticism by President Barack Obama.

The bill signed by Governor Jan Brewer will require state police to question people about their immigration status if there is "reasonable suspicion".

The bill - which takes effect in 90 days - also makes it a crime under state law to be in the US illegally.

President Obama has described the law in the US border state as "misguided".

PHOENIX -- Pro's Ranch Market has fired some 300 people -- about 20 percent of its employees -- in the wake of a federal audit that found them to be working in the U.S. illegally.

According to an attorney for the company, most of those workers provided forged documents when they were asked to prove their work eligibility. Non-citizens must have work authorization in order to get a job in this country.

President Obama's public remarks on this legislation were one of the most disgusting displays of federal arrogance that I've ever witnessed. When a state tries to protect it's citizens because the federal government won't do it, the President should be hanging his head in shame. Instead, he comes out with a public rebuke, calling their efforts "misguided" and actually threatening them with the power of our very own Department of Justice.

I seem to recall that we had some Obama supporters here who claimed to be big states' rights supporters and who constantly complained about President Bush failing to enforce immigration laws. Where are you now?

Are you comfortable with President Obama's broken promise of doing something about immigration in his first year?

Are states' rights still important to you?

Hopy he is to busy playing high sheriff on howdy doo/doo and range rider.

I can visualize him on his rocking horse with that vest and three inch belt hollering high ho silver. One thing for sure he rarely gets bucked off as his belly button overhangs the saddle hon and acts as his safety belt.
