What do those of you who have this do??

I'm getting tired of taking Ibuprofen.

I was in a head on collision 2006. Severe injuries get up every morning cant move. I TAKE norco 325/10 12 pills a day.

Ask your Dr, to try you on a round of it. It's easier and safer for the liver. It stimulates and relieves the pain in nerve ends a well as the bones.

Right now I am fighting a battle that nothing is relieving the pain. Whole left side of my upper torso inundated with Shingles. I never knew pain till I HAD THIS. Been fighting it 1 week today and its a cross between fire on the surface and knives as deep as they could be poked under the skin in the muscles and bones.

A t first when the little pin prick blisters started showing up with the pain I THOUGHT OT WAS PRACTICING VOODO pin stabs on a doll named pigfarmer.

I would not wish these on anybody not even to get info from terrorist's the pain inflicted goes beyond inhumane let alone the itching:wink:

Has your Dr. put you on L-Lysine...it's supposed to help with Shingles. Can't say that I have any experience with it. Just know that I've heard that. Also when taken for Shingles it's combined with an antiviral drug such as acyclovir or valcyclovir. Ya might ask about it.

Thanks Jersy.Lilly

I am taking the alcyclovir They did not get it started till Monday. Shingles is a chicken pox virus lays dormant in the body. It attacks when one gets stressed or the immune system weakens.

Dr.s will tell you see them with in 2 days of the onset and they can nip it in the bud.

I called the Dr.s hand on this on Monday. I started having the pain deep in the shoulder neck and arm 4 days before the blisters started showing up. The pain is the onset of Shingles it always comes first. On day 5 the blisters show up and it was then unbearable.

I asked the Dr. how can you treat on day 2 when its typical for the blisters to not show up for 5 days to a week. His only reply was well that is the main problem with shingles you never know you have them till the 2 day window is passed and then they must run their curse I MEAN course.

Last week I was so irritated and frustrated from the pain Wife and I HAD A screaming match she was packing her clothes and going to the daughters leaving for good she said. The pain was driving me nuts. That is a short ride for me as I can't stand to loose any more marbles.

Well I gave her all the dont let the door hit you in the rear and Thank Ford and Highway you are gone. At THIS TIME THE BLISTERS were still not present.

She fell asleep and did not leave. Man am I EVER RELIEVED she fell asleep. I was giving her all the sermons you leave stay gone and all the manly grumblings. I cant dress my self for the severity of the pain or do a lot of chores.

After 42 years I have lost track of the number of times the clothes being packed has happened. To be honest I WOULD HAVE thought the shingles and the pain would have been like a Sunday School picnic compared to the pain of her really packing up and leaving.

Honesty like this is why I KEEP HER AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER AND OUT OF MY OFFICE. :)

PF you have my deepest sympathy going through the shingles.
If you can believe it I had them when I was in high school and they were on my lower back right where my waist band of my pants sat. About drove me crazy.
Dr. had to take a sample to find out what it was.
I tried the calamine lotion, but it never does anything for me.

As for the arthritis, mine was also caused by and injury.
A homemade round bale feeder the hubby made. It was a hand crank set up. Worked great until I lost my grip on the handle and it swung around and got me right on the knuckle where your finger and hand meet.
It has been swollen for most of the winter and when we were in the -20's it swelled up so bad I had to take my wedding band off.

Katrna thanks for the best wishes. I just took a hot soaking bath and applied the calamine lotion, For about thirty minutes afterwards I could have clawed my skin off.

The calamine is finally going to work and helping the itching but the pain is unbearable.

I am taking percoset and norco every six hours and get about 1 hours pain relief.

I did not mean to hijack the thread rather a heads up for the aged ones like me to run to the Dr. If they get severe unexplainable pain. that is the first sign of the virus becoming active.

L-Lysine is an amino acid. That helps in the production of new cell growth and healing, and helps keep your immune system built up, Shingles happens when your immune system is down, or your overyly worn out. I know what shingles are...dad had em and suffered for a couple months with it. I didn't know about the L-Lysine then. But it's good for fever blisters. Which is all tied into the same thing as shingles. It's not a prescription.....you can ask for it at the pharmacy. But I would make a call into the dr and see how many to take and such like that before starting them. But with you already taking the drug that's paired with it. I can't see where it would do any harm...only some good.

Reno, Nevada has a wonderful place called Sierra Medical Center.
http://www.sierraintegrative.com/

We attended a Randy Travis concert and he gave out flyers about
this place and he gives a testimony of what it has done for him and members of his family. It's traditional medicine as well as alternative.

If I had something going on that was elusive, I'd sure visit this place.
Not that shinles is elusive.

My mother had shinges in her eyes. It was terrible watching her suffer
with them.

I hope you get relief, pig farmer. And you to ILH.

ILH.....I have arthritis to a degree. Just enough that I snap crackle and pop when I get up in the mornings.

Well last year my kids bought me an electric matress pad. (instead of an electric blanket) and seems on these cold mornings (yeah yeah I know....it's Texas) but still it seems to make a difference in when I get up. I don't hurt as bad....and don't make near the noise I did before.

Also....glucosamine tablets seem to help. You won't notice a difference right away....but after about a month...it has time to take affect.

I Luv Heredfords-- the only thing I found that actually worked on my arthritis is prednisone- a steroid....But the side effects (weight gain, puffy face, etc) aren't worth it....Altho while I was taking it- I felt like and could move like I was 40 years younger...
My sister went thru the Mayo Arthritis Center- and prednisone was part of the treatment they used for her- and she's doing good now- without taking it anymore....She says that anyone with an arthritis problem should go there....

Our Texas horse trainer friend told me about something he swears is better than glucosmine. It's LubriSyn HU. It's a daily dose of hyaluronan,
the fluid that cushions your joints. They give it to horses too, but the
HU means this one is for humans. I got some from www.3Drum.com
and I've just started taking it. Doesn't taste bad; has raspberry
flavoring. Take 2 tsp. daily.

FWIW

I've heard of the Lubrysin for horses...stuff's terribly expensive. How's the human stuff cost wise?

From the Lubisyn website- its $66 for a months supply for horses-- and $39 for a months supply for humans....

Talk to your doctor about meloxicam it is a NSAID and has been successfully used for the treatment of arthritis in humans.

I had rheumatic fever when I was 21 and that has to be the most pain I have ever felt in my life. I couldn't walk down my stairs I had to crawl , every joint in my body was in constant throbbing pain that actually brought me to tears many many days. For about 4 years after I had recovered my joints, especially my fingers, could not handle any cold at all, even lukewarm water would cause me great pain but it gradually got better and I am fine now.

I feel for all of you that suffer from any joint pain and I am very sorry that you have to suffer.

Same thing going on here soap. Three bulls busted out last spring and by the time we rounded them up 15 heifers bred. Had the flu when they broke out took about a week to regather them the rest is history.

One luxury of the shingles in this kind of weather they keep the drizzle off. :)
