FYI – Artichokes

Artichokes at the market last week were .79¢ each but they had Brown spots on their leaves and did not/would not sell.

Today I went in and they were On Sale – 4 for $1.00 – I bought them all (12)

Out of Staters – New Bees - what Dummies - -

The BEST Artichokes are the ones “Kiss By Frost” – that make the outside leaves have Brown Spots.

Californians Know:
Winter artichokes are more conical in shape. Some winter chokes may be touched by frost (frost kissed) and have a light bronze to brown tint to the outer leaves. Artichoke fans prefer the winter kissed artichokes for the enhanced nutty, rich flavor. The winter artichokes do revert to their grey-green color when cooked.

There was a local fellow, Arthur Smith, that everyone called Artie. Nice fellow, well liked. One day though while at the grocery store, the cashier mistakenly gave him one less dollar than he should have in his change. For some reason, Artie went nuts over this, ranting and yelling that they were cheating him. He kept yelling and getting more and more angry. He grabbed the cashier around the neck and throttled her until she fell to the floor. The bag boy ran to help, but Artie grabbed him by the throat as well until the poor bag boy passed out. Alarmed by the commotion, the manager ran up and Artie promptly throttled him as well.

Eventually the police came and subdued Artie and took him off to jail. The next day the front page of the paper said, "Artie chokes three for a dollar at Kroger."
