Now what can be wrong with a bunch of cute girls playing bluegrass? Man that girl can play the banjo, I gotta respect that.
I'm still more than confused as to the anger that seems to be directed at them. Seems pretty silly. Either you like their music or you don't, and thats ok either way.

They slammed our President when they were performing abroad. They eventually apologized, but having to hear about them again yesterday, they are going to rescind the apology. They can just stick their songs and discs where the sun don't shine

Duh...............if the left wing media doesn't report it...............there is no link....................now why didn't I think of that. I would say drudge has maybe 20 links..........and I suppose you think thatt is everything that goes on in this world. Besides the right has a tendency to ignore the left wing entertainment.

maybe something like this?

"I'd rather have a smaller following of really cool people who get it," says Maguire, "who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith. We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do."

"Maines has one regret: the apology she offered George W. Bush at the onset of her infamy. "I apologized for disrespecting the office of the President," says Maines. "But I don't feel that way anymore. I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever.""

They slammed your president so you don't like them? Good grief, thats what living in a free country is all about isn't it? If I remember right, they said they were embarrassed about being from the same state as him.
Who cares? Who cares what celebraties think about anything? They are just folks and their opinion means no more than yours or mine, and they are entitled to it just like us.

Yep. Just like we have the right to boycott them and to say things about them. They made their money in the United States and they don't even respect our President. That's what we don't like.

I never did understand you americans reverence of your president. Canadians have no problems 'disrespecting' our primeminister if we feel he deserves it. He's just another citizen.

Silver, I don't think it is so much criticizing our president, as doing it in a time of war, and overseas. Things like that get our troops killed, and most of us don't like that.

But heck, antiwar demonstrators, and some in the Democratic party do it everyday. But is still pi##es me off.

Silver, I read the whole article in Time the other day when I was waiting for my son to finish his follow up appointment with a doctor (Standard stuff, he is only 2 months old). I got to wait out in the lobby while my litle girl played with blocks and read the magazine inbetween requests for stories... I guess a few stations or CMT or someone has run some interview pols on it and it 1) Most folks aren't so much mad that they said what they said but that they said it in Europe (Britian) 2) An apology would make it go away. When the incident happened you also need to remember that the war and president had much, much more support than they do now.

The country music fandom is different, more patriotic or jingoistic depending on your point of few, but pretty darn loyal in the grand scheme of things to their genre and its stars. The DC's seem to have a problem with this rigidity and think that they will be successful on the rock charts or pop charts or whatever. Could be, probably will be with the first album. Staying power will be the question. i believe the disrepect shown to the fans who made them as popular as they were was not a good thing and will probably be the nail. I suppose they fell it is justified by that shody treatment they recieved in their minds. The article listed what the rock and rap world have done since in criticing the president and nothing had any where near the uproar of this. Green Day's album "American Idiot" is talking about one American in general.

Reminds me of the time the one musician critized Walmart and walmart pulled her CD's. She got in tizzy about free speach but couldn't figure out that you are free to speak and free to face the consequences of the people who are offended by your speach. In the end she shouldn't have worried because her Album sold just fine... The skeptic in me would say that her anger about the whole thing was more about getting some free pub for her CD and less about free speach

They still play them on Country radio around here

Most Americans don't have any problem disrespecting the president, either. So long as he's from "the other" party.
I'd wager the vast majority of folks who are still bent out of shape about the "disrespect" of Bush had absolutely no problems complaining about Clinton.

An apology would make it go away.
I highly doubt it. Look at the hatred expressed by people here. People who've been working this hard to carry a grudge against three women they don't even know for three entire years are not looking to forgive for any reason.

txag,
That's not a slam against country music fans, like katrina was saying. I'm sure that wasn't it.
That's simply a reply that they don't really care if there are still people carrying an active animosity toward them. Ie, the people who "don't get it".

Who cares what celebraties think about anything? They are just folks and their opinion means no more than yours or mine, and they are entitled to it just like us.
I agree.
Look at where Toby Keith is the most popular. Yet he's a Democrat (horror, of horrors! )

HMW, The apology was from the polls.. I personally don't think it would make it go away but it would be a step in the "right" direction in the eyes of some people. Around here for the most part 1) it was never a big deal and 2) they are still on the radio. They might have been pulled, if at all, for a week.

I was never really a Dixie chicks fan so what happened made me no more or no less interested in listening to them.

No, living in a free country is about being able to slam the president and not get your head chopped off and the toenails pulled from your child tiny fingers and toes. Let them voice their opinion all they want. I think that it is all a publicity stunt. They know that their country fan base will never buy them again, so go after the left wingers. I will bet if you sit down with them, they could not hold an intelligent political conversation.
