Another good groupin of photos Soapweed, thanks for sharing.

I always get a chuckle out of it, when I see your "Swamp hay" Looks nothin like swamp area here. And ya couldn't even get close to gettin hay equipment into our swamps. Course there'd be no reason too....there's more water than grass in ours. Along with other creepy crawly things that wouldn't do good in a baler.

that looks like a good way to go on a parts run. is that the 4020 you picked up earlier this summer? how bad was she hurtin? it looks like you are getting more than a few swamp bales wrapped up. the bad thing about a having a good hay year is that you have to go pick all of them up. i guess there are worse problems to have  :D

Are you close to being done haying Soap?

There is a little more swamp hay that is down but not baled, and a couple hours mowing some weeds that grew up again after they were mowed the first time--then we'll be officially done. :)

Soapweed, How do you haul your hay?

We have a D&W bale hauler with processor. It hauls five bales in the wintertime, but in the summer we take off the processor, and it hauls six bales. A loading arm picks up the bales so the tractor doesn't even have to stop. It works fairly well, and the bales all end up being back-to-back in a cylinder-type formation after they are hauled to the bale yards.

It was a 2010 diesel that I bought earlier this summer. It pulls a single bar Kosch mower and works very well. The 4020 on the trailer had a hydraulic leak, and one battery wasn't working, even though it was new back in January of this year. Hopefully the warranty will cover this problem. The tractor is fixed and back in operation today. :)

How many wheels does your bale wagon have? Do you have to be picky about starting a load on soft ground and finishing on dry?
Thinking of getting one but would like to have tandem dually axles under it. We now use our gooseneck trailer and a ball on the three point hitch on the tractor, it is easier than hooking up a wagon every load.

Two on each side, one in front of the other.

Sometimes it helps to do this. The outfit has a loading arm, so the driver doesn't have to stop. You just drive by, secure the bale in the loading arm, and lift it up on the chains. Then while driving to the next bale, the bale is moved back six feet to accomodate the next one. When six are loaded, you drive to the bale yard, lower the back of the carrier, and run the chains backwards until the bales come off all lined up in a row. The whole procedure actually works pretty slick.

Headed West out of Valentine you'll even see the Spearhead Ranch sign. I've always thought about stopping on my travels through the region but always forget about it until I'm passing it.
