Buffalo, SD man dies after ATV accident

A 35-year-old Buffalo man died Monday following an ATV accident in rural Corson County, according to Sheriff Keith Gall.

Allen R. Tomac died in a North Dakota hospital from injuries he sustained in an accident on the family ranch south of Keldron.

Tomac was helping round up cattle for branding when the accident occurred, Gall said.

Two fifteen old girls were killed on the last day of school near
Glendive, Mt. They were riding double and went through a fence
and hit a building. We were told the ATV tipped over on them,
pinning them under it. They were not found for a few hours.
Speed was a factor.

This is so sad. Be careful out there, everyone.

We lost a rancher/ex-rodeo contractor up the valley from us last fall. Went to check fence and didnt come back. Had massive head injuries when they found him from rolling an ATV. What folks don't realize is that even a smaller 4 wheeler will weigh around 500 pounds. Add in speed and they can hurt you bad. Ya just have to slow down and pay attention. Espcially on slopes or sidehills and even asphalt. The tires can grab on ya on pavement and jerk you on a 90 degree. Sorry to hear about the folks you mentioned. Lets not join the ranks of injured of worse ourselves.

2 years ago, trey had a little mishap on one and broke his foot. It did learn him though. It seams every year some body gets hurt or kilt on one around here. They sure are handy machines though.

Tibbs, I looked it up in the phone book. He was from Buffalo, SD
and had the accident in ND.

NO, he had the accident in SD!
He died in ND! The closest hospital is in ND! The article clearly states it.

Was that East or West River?

Frank, sorry about your cousin. Guess in the big picture where he died isnt nearly as important as how he lived. I wish you'd re-think what you wrote to Yanuck. Nobody knew he was your cousin and she was merely being funny like we all do a lot around here. Again, my best wishes to you and the family.

Sorry Frank that is a tough way to lose someone. I've put many a 4-wheeler's and 3-wheelers on their sides and tops and so has my family...they are dangerous, but so can be riding a horse! Even experienced people can get themselves in a jam with them ATV's. Dad had one here a while back that the throttle stuck down when he goosed it through a gate and it took off (without him on it) at full speed about 50mph over the hills and eventually careened off into a huge cut bank....bent it up pretty good. Seems mom is always finding herself underneath hers, but luckily she is a stout tough lady and can push it off her. My last near wreck was out in West Texas along the Pecos River and I nearly gunned it over a 30 foot bank straight down when a damn wild hog came woofing out of no where and ran between the wheels....scared the crap out of me. I was half nervous and skittish looking for wets anyway as they were reported in that area at the time and that angry pig didn't help my anxiety....again sorry for your loss of your cousin! Tough deal.
