Controversial Professor Bill Ayers Suing Univ. of Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyo. — Bill Ayers and a University of Wyoming student are suing the school after it banned the former 1960s radical from speaking on campus.

Ayers, who is a professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago, makes college speeches and is routinely picketed, but the University of Wyoming last week banned him from using any university venue for a planned April 28 lecture.

Ayers and student Meg Lanker sued on Thursday, asking a federal judge to issue an injunction and allow the lecture. The lawsuit alleges the ban violates free speech rights and the freedom to assemble.

A university spokeswoman declined to comment on the suit.

Lanker told the Casper Star-Tribune that Ayers will speak at the Laramie Civic Center if he's not allowed on campus.

In other news,

In the latest salvo in the brouhaha over Sarah Palin's confidential speaking fee at a California State University campus, an open-government group sued the campus and its foundation Friday to force disclosure of the information.

He's pretty desperate to speak, sounds like to me. :x

Stick to your guns, UW!!!

I remember a time when the Hell's Angels were going to ride
through Rawlins, Wy. The law met them on one side of town and
escorted them to the other side, and told them to keep on going.
I  Wyoming. They have guts!!!!!

Chief Justice John Roberts was recently denied an invitation to speak at Butler University's commencement because he was seen as "too political". Yet people such as President Obama, Vice-President Biden, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Rahm Emanuel, George Soros, etc. are routinely invited and allowed to speak. In fact, the number of liberal speakers invited far outnumbers the conservatives. You know, the free expression of ideas and all that. When conservative speakers are invited, they are met with hoots and catcalls from members of the audience, if they are allowed to speak at all. Often they are "disinvited" after liberal students and faculty raise a stink about it. Well, so much for the free expression of ideas. The hypocrisy of the left on this issue in astounding.

As for Ayers:

Feigning hurt and outrage, William Ayers, who bombed the Pentagon while gloating that "The [expletive] were finally going to get what was coming to them," now snivels over the ostensible incivility of his detractors in the Cowboy State. In a breathtaking display of hypocrisy, Ayers lamented that his impending visit had spawned "hateful messages and death threats," as if his detractors might sink to the level on which he has seen fit to operate. He further offered phony laments that the cancellation of his speaking event undermined the "precious ideal of a free university in a free society." This from someone who gloried in the possibility of denying life and limb to those Americans he considered his political adversaries.
