I wrote to my "republican" congressman and told him to vote against. According to the response I got, he did vote against, believe it or not.

Mine voted against it too, Alice. It's a damn shame that we have to get this close to an election before our elected representatives will carry out our wishes. I suspect a lot of votes would have been different if all of this was happening after the election instead of before.

Mine, a Republican, voted against it. I heard on the news today that the Illinois congessmen split 9-9, and not strictly along party lines.

My rep voted for the bailout. He is not up for reelection this year so he kissed Pelois back side and voted for it .

I told his office today that I would not forget how he voted .

Did he kiss Pelosi- or does that tell you how "dire" Bush let this ecomy become :???: Remember Bush and McBusch were the two echoing that "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" as later in the day Paulson/Bernanke announced the bailout of AIG and fall of Lehman Brothers, an over 125 years business :???:

So if things are hunky dory- Why did your annointed Champion go in front of the nation proposing the bailout with the huge haste needed- and your annointed "Champion to be" agree for the need of this Bailout even before the details were known :???:

Oldtimer,

there is no reason that we as taxpayers should bail out companies that we supported through business for years. bankruptcy is a part of business, it is a risk that each of us take. they needed to be a bit more intouch with how they do business....

My soybeans did not produce as well as I had hoped this year. I did not get them sprayed in a timely manner. now, I realize I will be a bit short in paying my bills....will you please bail me out??

If you are for the govt. bail out, then there is no reason for me NOT to expect a check for a few thousand dollars. I will P.M. you my address.

Is Bush- Paulson- Cox- Bernanke than lying about the "direness" of the situation :???: $1.2 Trillion from folks investments and retirement accounts just disappeared in the biggest dollar drop in the history of the stock market- calf futures record down for the first time I've seen in some time.....

Repub leadership said they had an agreement- but then they played partisanship- after speachifying for over a week about the "disaster" that was going to overtake the country....

I don't blame the lack of credibility with King George- but if you listened to the number of Repub Congressman that last night/ this morning speachifyed and preached "dire" results if it wasn't passed-taking away any confidence left- and then turned against their leadership and voted it down, putting everything into a tailspin- is unforgiveable...

Did you forget that the Democrats have a majority in the house. All they had to do is vote and pass the bailout.

Many Dems know who's in leadership and wanted more-while others didn't trust the limits of power - but love seeing Bush/McBusch look like bigger dummies

The thing is- the leadership of both parties said they had a majority of their members on board to give this a bipartisan passage ( or it would never have been brought out for a vote to scare the Hell out of everyone)- Dems had well over 60%- Repubs pulled a McBusch (even after McBusch supported it) and only got 30 some % support of their leadership...

The talking heads were on the radio today- the $1.2 Trillion dollars lost on the market today after the Repubs started flippin is 26 years earnings (out the door forever to the entire US economy- let alone the investors/retirement accounts :( :( )

are you so foolish that you thought we could ride this wave forever?? there is ALWAYS a correction coming. the idea is to milk the good times, while preparing for the bad. the place we live on, we bought 5 years ago. today I could TRIPLE my money...... I am not an idiot that thinks in another 5 years it will triplle again, there HAS to be a correction or things will go plumb nuts....

the govt has been manipulating the market, feeding it with false indicators and now we will see a BIG BUST.

honestly, I feel like I am in a decent financial spot, not too over leveraged, so I see the bust as an opportunity to grow some acres and expand.

and if a bunch of people lose everything in the process because they blew every dime to live for now rather than prepare for tomarrow, then that is no problem of mine.

OT..hard to face the fact that the dems had enough members in the house to pass this bill without a single republican getting on board. Yet you still find a way to blame the repubs.

Maybe the Dems would like to explain the Democrats on the Banking Committee who voted AGAINST the measure as well.

Yep, it's the Republican's fault...

and when did it become the taxpayers responsibility to make sure Wall street profits???

The government could fix a lot of things if they would put tariffs on all imports......... resurrect the Glass Steagall Act and more rigid regulation........... however that might reduce their own (Congress) coffers.
