Barney Frank makes a point here. I remember Hot Tub Tom. With his antics Texas took a back seat to all of the top seniority spots in Washington.

Second, Democrats not only did not cause the crisis, they were aginst subprime lending all together: "The Bush administration made a big mistake; they were the ones that pushed home ownership for very poor people. Liberals wanted rental housing, we thought that was more appropriate," he claims.

I believe the Community Reinvestment Act was passed in 1977 (Carter Adm. ) and reimphasized in 1999 under Bill Clinton. CRA did not promote "rental properties" but did the exact opposite. It placed tremendous pressures and even threats on bankers who did not give preferental treatment and permanent financing for home purchases to people who were not even good renters.

I knew there was a problem BUT I am not responsible.
Please people at what point do we hold our elected officials RESPONSIBLE.
It was their JOB if there was a problem to fight against it.
Forget party lines this is about the people who you are suppose to represent ALL of them not your buddies who help you win, not the big donors but each and everyone.

Bush: Fundamentals 'are strong'
Sept. 20: President Bush says that he is optimistic about the economy, but added he would be pessimistic if he "thought Congress was going to get their way and raise taxes."

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Thursday cited "some unsettling times" in the U.S. housing and credit markets as he sought to assure jittery Americans that the economy is holding up well despite worries about a recession.

"I say that the fundamentals of our nation's economy are strong," Bush told a White House news conference.
