“BECAUSE WE SAY SO,” FINALLY LOSES ITS POWER AND HOLDER’S CHALLENGE TO NC VOTER ID LAW IS SMACKED DOWN
AUGUST 12, 2014 COACH COLLINS LEAVE A COMMENT
By Kevin “Coach” Collins

This is yet another story we won’t hear about on the evening news or read about in the New York Timers. They don’t like it when their team loses.

Attorney General Eric Holder’s move to block fair elections in North Carolina was thrown out of court on Friday. He had hoped to assist Tar Heel State Democrats in their attempts to steal elections with voter fraud, but a federal court handed down a ruling that upholds North Carolina’s voter ID law and brings the matter to a complete halt. This means Democrat voter fraud opportunities like early voting and Election Day registration are now a thing of the past, at least for now. It also means North Carolina’s laws on voter ID will be in place for the coming November elections and hopes the Democrats have of holding on to the Senate seat now held by Kay Hagen have been seriously damaged.

In its insulting briefs the Justice Department had argued that Black voter participation would be reduced because Blacks live harder lives than other people so they don’t have as much time to vote as Whites do.

The voting law, which has been called one of the most egregious in recent history, will stand trial next summer

A federal judge ruled Friday against a petition by the Justice Department and civil rights group to block North Carolina’s expansive voting law from taking effect before November’s election, writing there was not enough evidence that it would cause “irreparable harm” if it remained in effect.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Schroeder said in his opinion that though the plaintiff’s raised plausible claims against the 2013 law, there was no need for an injunction on the law while the issue was litigated in the courts. The state’s request to dismiss the case altogether was also denied, and it will stand trial next year.

I wouldn't call that a smackdown... Judge refused to block the new law's taking affect- but also ruled against throwing the whole case out and set it for trial... Looks more like a draw...

I would not be surprised if an Appellate Court didn't put it on hold- going back to the previous existing law- until the trial could be held....

Ot, are you sure you're against voter ID laws? Careful now............

I have no problem with voter ID laws... Montana has them- but we also have mail-in absentee balloting where after you've signed up at the elections office- they send out the ballot approximately a month before election...
Since the mail in voting- it has decreased the work load/cost to the Elections officers and I believe increased the number of voters... Often by election day- 50% of the registered voters ballots are already in the County Clerks office... It also gives us folks that just don't vote for "a cult" time to look over the issues and the persons running- and make informed decisions...

I'm in favor of anything that allows/promotes everyone voting... And I think any laws that appear to be passed to hinder getting everyone to vote will be overturned...

Montana is one of the few states in the nation that offers permanent absentee status to voters. Use the Montana Absentee Ballot Application to add yourself to the Permanent Absentee List. You can choose to have ballots sent to you for every subsequent election (including municipal, state and federal) or just for federal elections. You will need to respond to certain confirmation mailings to remain on the list. Permanent absentee status is a great way to make sure you never miss another election.

Aside from being a generally patronizing comment, do you realize how stupid it is to insinuate that mail-in ballots somehow give a voter more time to evaluate candidates/issues?

Stop and think about what you said you insufferable asshat.

I'll bet you there are quite a few voters that don't even know who is on the ballot or what referendums are being voted for until they walk into the voting booth and pick up the ballot to mark it... Especially in the nonpartisan judgeships and local elections... And the confusing referendums..

Before we had the mail out's- I'd cut the sample ballots out of the newspaper- so I could do a study then- and mark them as to who's beliefs fit best to issues important to me... Sometimes even take them with me to the polls so I got things right... Some of the referendums are very tricky- where voting no actually means you are for it- so if there are several on the ballot it can be very confusing...
Now as I do the research- over a period of days- I just mark that person and when I get everything marked send it in...

Sure, just send that sucker in ahead of time and everything's cool.

And then, a day before the election, a photo appears of Johnny Good Guy banging one of his heifers (the good looking one) in the barn behind the house. Alternately, and even worse, a photo appears of Johnny Good Guy at a tea party rally.

Most campaigns should be limited to only a few months anyway... If they can't dig up enough mud to smear each other with by then- then they must be pretty clean candidates...

Which has absolutely nothing to do with the bone-headed comment you made in the first place. That really shocks me.

Which would you prefer of your chosen candidate Johnny Good Guy, OT.....that he be photographed laying pipe to a heifer (the pretty one) in the barn or caught celebrating at a tea party rally?

Bet I know which.

Nonpartisan judgeships??

You never, repeat, NEVER vote to retain a judge in office, no matter how popular he or she may be.

Now I know how some of those Judges that have made bad/stupid law with their decisions got into office... I often wondered- but folks like you who don't study the issues/persons and just vote NO may be a part of the reason...

It works both ways, numb nutz. When idiots are appointed, unless they are voted out, they are there as long as they want to be. No judge that I ever voted to not be retained was ever voted out. I was being the "Devil's Advocate" and letting them know that they didn't have a lock on the job.

So which is it Mr. Informed Early Voter?

Your candidate lead out of the barn in handcuffs or caught secretly attending a tea party rally?
