Bataan Death March survivor looks back, ahead

I knew a survivor and he was so liberated by the event. He was fearless in the way he approached life, and really seemed to live the valvano credo "If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special."

That generation is a national treasure, undervalued and almost gone.

Pick up "Last Man Standing" by Glenn McDole, USMC. Captured at Corregidor, survived the March, and spent 3 years at a Jap POW camp on Palawan. He survived the massacre of the prisoners by the Japs that happened shortly before the camp was liberated. Survived appendicitis while a POW. Testified at the War Crimes trials in Tokyo. One tough SOB.
