Be careful if you rent

A lady who has helped me here from time to time was attacked 2 days ago and left for dead.

She rents in a nearby little hamlet type town and it seems the place she now lives at used to be occupied by a reg. sex offender and he was asked to move from there, by the sheriff, as it's near a school. This was aobut 6 months ago.

So this lady moves in...not knowing this and the fact that the locks had not been changed.

Apparently this guy was in her house when she came home. He literally beat her to within a inch of her life with a baseball bat. Fractured skull, face beat in, black and blue from one end to the other. She's might weight 110lbs....maybe.

Her daughter found her sometime the next day as she would not answer her phone when the daughter called.

It seems this past renter/offender is the mail culprit. He may have been looking for something he ' stashed' in the house earlier and came back to get. She was not robbed....nothing in the house was distured as he came in by way of his old key.

So...if you or anyone you know rents...ask TONS of questions about the past renters, etc and take it upon yourself to change the locks.

This is very sad. We worry about this in our area also. The school kids found a sex offender web site showing where these guys live on a yahoo type map.
We have one living 1/2 mile from our house in trailer. I go by his house every morning when I feed and have never seen him. Directly across from his trailer a 12 year old boy lives and waits for the school bus.

Next to the sex offender
lived another boy that was nine years old. One day the little boy got drunk and drove his dads car down that hill and killed himself at least thats what the accident report said. His single dad still lives there.
Two other sex offenders live near our local high school together. The police and sheriff know that.

Really be aware of people moving into the country from the city some have a dark past. We have had three people move in across our fence in front of our house from our lane. This land has never had people living on it till now
One lives in a rusty trailer house 1950s style another one lives in a school bus and another one lives in a trailer without skirting.
I have seen these people come and go and have never seen the same person more than twice. Told the sheriff and he said he knows them.

Our life has changed greatly. When they are playing their music some of us can not sleep at nights. They are also restoring a old bar that has not been open for the 30 years that we have lived here.

Wow, that's terrible.

As far as renters go, school teachers have been by far the best bet. Some cops are even a disaster....and drunks, who usually turn out to be druggers as well....don't get me started.

That is an awful story Kola. I wonder what renters' rights are in your state? For instance, can they install their own locks?

After reading this story, I would never buy or rent without changing the locks. Ugh.

I'm glad they found her and it sounds like she may be okay.

Sex offenders should be either forced to wear electronic anklets or chemically castrated. IMHO.

I have no idea about renter laws here. But, the man she rented from she knew and we all know him and he's one of the " leaders" in the county ....the subject of locks just never came up, never crossed her mind.

She thought she was safe..

Isn't that rediculous? Thanks to the hand wringers and the "criminal rights" idiots, we have lousy sentences like that to help society keep the wolves at bay.

A guy up here got drunk and took his two baby daughters, who were wearing nothing but t-shirts and diapers, out into a snowstorm where he lost them. They froze to death. The courts gave him a total of 3 years, which is bad enough on its own, but the man had 51 criminal convictions before this one. The First Nations "sentencing circle" actually had the audacity to suggest he simply be released into the community.

Its complete garbage. Sentences should reflect the crime, and we need to start putting some bullets into some of these offenders, instead of allowing them to run free.
