Beautiful April Evening Pictures

While I do not want to renew the debate over April calving, tonight gave me one more reason to calve in February! We are having one heck of a blizzard tonight. 5 inches have fallen where the wind hasnt drifted it in just over 2 hours. The veiw north east out the backdoor. The brush is holding the drifts as the storm is coming from the west. Might be a fun commute in the morning! :???:

Nary a kid on the trampoline this evening. One hop and they'd be to Wyoming!

Fed the cows on the leeward side of the stackyard. Hurry up with supper girls and head for the shed!

The heifer pen had to squint to eat as the manger faces west.
DSCF1004-7.jpg

As does the bull pen that contains one bull and one unleaded bull soon to become beef!

I think our bull even looks good in snowfluage!

Still chewing at a rapid pace! Still snowing sideways at a good clip too!

The haystack looks skinny! Thankfully I picked up 20 ton of oat hay that awaits my shoulder healing to get hauled home. If this weather keeps it up, it may get done one handed.

The calving suite still has it's Easter guest and his mother as occupants.

Pete R Cottontail would be his registered name if he had a fancier pedigree! :D He knows where his bread is buttered!

All the youngsters are sheltered in place.

Say cheese with a flash in your eyes!

Flash Free!

The cats are taking cover in a dogless doghouse. They are amazing cow cats! You should see them stand in a gate and turn cows you want through the gate! :x But they don't bark too loud!
DSCF1015-4.jpg

These two critters just eat and get doted on by two kids I know! Freeloaders! The goats, not my children! :D

April Blizzards make cold lizzards! Sorry, it's late and my rhyme suffer's due to the time! :p
DSCF1017-3.jpg

Drifting snowflakes. The H2o is sure welcome but all ya'll east of here might want to keep your heads up. It should be heading east quick! Happy April! Anybody want to lease a dogsled and some huskies? I may need them to attend the day job!

Nice thing about April Blizzards is that they don't usually last too long. Looks like you have a good one going on there. We've had lots of wind today, and is still blowing, but it is the westerly Chinook (snow eater). Our temp is still in the 50's at 10:00! Yours will at least turn green, but ours will turn the other way :( .

Great picture story, Leanin' H. Hope your eastward moving blizzard falls apart before it arrives in Nebraska.

Now I know where the moisture is... some guy out west of me filtered out the water and let the wind blow on through. Thanks for pictures H.

Share and share alike. We've got about 6 inches of that white crap since 7:pm and it is still coming down. Nice little west breeze to blow more coastal clouds on in.
Why does the Lord want to bestow us with so much moisture when there are folks that need it far more? :(

You are right about calving in April H, they should all be coming in June. :?

We are semen testing bulls after lunch today, it should be hip waders by then in the corral.

Just pulled a freak monster out of a third calver in the timber. Came out by hand but the cow has been there for a bit and is having trouble standing. Letting her clean a little slime off and will bring the calf into the heater until daylight. With any luck she will not have fell on it when I go out again.

Can everbody tell I'm real happy right now?

Hold on tight 'H, it'll be over before you know it! It's what you call a character building experience! :D

Gcreek, how's that toe coming along? I suppose that stumbling around in an April snow storm at two in the morning with a broken toe would challenge anyone's normally sunny disposition

from the one angle, it looks like you were out there playing Jenga with square bale stack

thats about what this country looked like last week. thankfully, the storm was gone and the snow melted in about 24 hours.

those calves are sure looking good :D

gcreek-Grandma always said there would be days like these, she just never said how many.
today is a new day, hopefully a better one for ya.

Sorry for the highjack H.

If those are your calves it looks like you "borrowed" some light yearlins from a neighbor for the photo-op.

Justin, H has his stack like that so the neighbors passing by think he still has a big pile of hay left. :p My Dad said the same thing about days.
Cow is on her feet this morning :D and her 140 lb little baby will go back out shortly'
My toe is a workin' progress but the least of my worries.

Well we made her through the night and morning brought an end to the wind and snow. I've made it a goal to build atleast one more shed each year and they come in awful handy on deals like this. Hope the wind blows in moisture for ya'll east of us, but in the form of a gentle soaking rain!

H, just build a shed like Shortgrass did, then maybe you could get by with building one every other year
