It's Charity Navigator. We were going to donate to the Wounded Warrior
project as we have done before, plus give $19/month. When I found
this site, I was disappointed to find out that the Wounded Warriors
only get 61% of the proceeds and a FORMER Executive Director
is paid over $200,000 per year! That's just not enough for the wounded warriors and too
much for overhead to suit us.

Charity Navigator does have listings of 4-star charities, so I will be checking them out.
Of course, the Salvation Army gets the bulk of what we donate.

FWIW

as this season approaches, many of US are thinking of digging a bit deeper to give a bit more.. but I caution those who want to give to check out who is getting the money and how much is actually going to the charitable cause..

there are more scams and charlatans then there are good decent charities..

giving locally often has the most bang for your buck.. not only do you see the results, but you know who is involved..

This time of year I often try to find a way to help at least one person or family in addition to our normal giving. ,.. I try not to let them know it is from me.. but instead a gift from the one who gave it to me.. our Lord ..

for example.. I know a family that needs a set of tires.. I gave them a gift certificate for an oil change anonymously ... and the garage will put the tires on and tell them it is "taken care of'..and Merry Christmas.. not much else needs to be said..

Working with Christian business men (or woman) is always great, because most will give you a great deal and put in a bit as well...
Me and a friend are splitting the cost of the tires and the garage owner is throwing in a bit as well.. (not only is he not charging for mounting, balancing, valves ect and the tires are at cost. but he has a free oil change special as well with the purchase of four tires.. . )

finding need is seldom a problem.. making a difference is always worth it..

it took me to about halfway through the post to realize that it was sarcasm...

I can say.. over the last few years in all my dealings with the VA, they have always been great... not one complaint from me.. there are alot of doctors, nurses and staff that care..

if he needed help,.. they would give him help..

Had to make a run to the ADM mill in Grand Island this morning. Stopped at Sam's first to buy a couple of new ratchet straps, and the man was there ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. The smallest bill I had in my pocket was a ten, and after about a half-second's hesitation, I put 'er in the kettle. Besides, I'm gonna win the 500 million dollar Powerball tonight! :D

Salvation Army and the Shriner's Hospitals for Burned and Crippled Children (the Transportation Fund) get the bulk of my giving.

Well done Steve

There is a nice steer in the slaughter house that is waiting for me to pick up. It goes to three families in the village that are on fixed incomes - all good people on hard times - I bet they share it with others.

Best to all

what a great way to remind folks "the reason for the season"

We don't need nativity scenes in the town circle or a lit Christmas tree to show what Christmas is all about.

Like I have said a few times, I don't consider myself a Christian, but I sure do respect them. And Atheists can try as they will to take the season away from you, but with acts of giving/kindness like this, they never will.
