Best and Biggest ever????

I always thought Flutie was shafted by not being in the NFl, his CFL career was great, then his big shot at the NFL turned out to be exactly what everyone predicted..... Short.

although, I do wish he was still playing, because he SUCKS as a commentator!

He was a diaster as a Bear in 86 or 87 ( Can't remember) but he was replacing an injured QB that was pretty popular and was just not accepted by most of the team in general.. It was painful to see him running around back there, needed to change the offense a bit for him but they didn't have enough time to figure it out.. I think he is one of two CFL QB's who bombed as Bears, the other being Henry Burris who was perhaps the worst QB I have ever seen and being a Bears fan, I have seen a lot of bad ones, lol.

I would have put Walter down as best RB as I think as an all around player he was tough to beat (Was the Bears emergency QB most weeks, could kick, best blocker on the team and probably best receiver).. But again, being a Bears fan I am a bit biased.. Real gentleman of a man and his wife was just wonderfull to me when I met her and her son when I was 12 or 13.

During his CFL career, Flutie captured three Grey Cup Championships and was named the league's Most Outstanding Player an unprecedented six times. Flutie has been a winner everywhere he's played. He has a record of 37-28 (.569) as a starting quarterback in the NFL, including a mark of 22-9 (.710) in home games.

Being female,I look at what my sport heros do on and off thier playing fields,be it hockey, football, baseball etc. Flutie was great on the field, and is great off the field, him and his wife do alot for Autism, since thier son is autistic.

Same with my fav. hockey player,Mario Lemieux, kooky guys like NR,sauys Grets is better but Mario trumps in my book because of his play on and off the ice.

A great sport hero is one thats just as great OUT of his sport as he is IN it JMHO.

I think Flutie did very well in San Diego and in Buffalo (In fact, he got SCREWED in Buffalo when Phillips decided to play Johnson instead of him) Played in 4 games in 86 for the Bears and didn't do anything really.. Had a decent QB rating but started 2 games, lost one and won one.. Unfortunetly his loss was in the playoffs, .. Hard to say what would have happened in Chicago if Tomzack and to a geater extent Fuller weren't so popular, McMahon had been healthy enough to play in the playoffs thus allowing Flutie more time to learn the system or 3) The coaches sticking with the other two and preparing Flutie of 87 instead.. I think he was probably the second best QB at the time on that team and in the long run would have been the bst..

I'm with Mrs. Greg and Jigs. I think Flutie was great and he got shafted by the NFL. For comparision sake, take Flutie and Warren Moon. Both had long careers in the CFL . Warren Moon got a chance to play in the NFL, had a good career, and I think that he made the Nfl hall of fame. On a documentary of Moon, he got passed over at the start of his career because at the time there was a lot of racial discrimination. I don't know why Doug got passed over, his height?? He played really fun to watch football and had a heck of a playbook. Unlike a lot of Qb's today.

I put Dieter Brock ( Winnipeg Bluebombers) at the top of the heap though. He could pretty much win a game by himself when he wanted to. Nfl teams tried to sign him but he didn't want to play down there. He had a rifle of an arm and could pick wings off a fly 50 yards down the field.

During the 49'ers hayday, which lasted for several years, Joe Montana was awesome with receivers like Rice etc.

Flutie never came close to this success.

I put Dieter Brock ( Winnipeg Bluebombers) at the top of the heap though.

We called him "Ralph" Brock down here. He was second string Q-back behind Pat Sullivan (Heisman winner) at Auburn. I knew him well back then.

He left Auburn and went to Jax State where he was assured a starting position.

He was very capable and had a good arm. Just not as good as Sullivan's.

Look what Elway did with what he had. For years and years he was the only one that needed to be defended - how many people had Sammy Winder as their RB in their fantasy leagues? Once they gave Elway a running back, look what happened.
