Pro-Obama, Muslim-led voter registration in mosques
Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 10/6/2008 8:30:00 AM
A leading critic of Islam isn't surprised there has been virtually no coverage or action taken against a Muslim group that has been running an illegal "get out the vote" campaign in swing-state mosques.

The group, Muslim Americans for Obama [MAFO], insists that all of its voter registration activity is non-partisan, despite the fact that its mission statement says it was launched in August 2008 "to provide a vehicle for Muslim-American supporters of Barack Obama to organize and mobilize our fellow citizens to get out the vote to elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States."

Continuing, the group's website states: "Although there is only a short period of time until the election..., there is much work to be done for supporters of Barack Obama's candidacy. [MAFO] was formed to offer a vehicle for Muslim-Americans to mobilize quickly and effectively so that our community turns out in great numbers for Barack Obama on Election Day."

Which of these two groups do you predict will be the first to investigate

if Muslim-led, pro-Obama voter registration drives in mosques

violate the 'separation of church and state'?

Vote in our poll

The "get out the vote" events are scheduled at mosques in Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and Ohio.

Robert Spencer is director of Jihad Watch, a project of the David Horowitz Freedom Center. He argues MAFO may be skirting the law.

"When they are running these voter registration drives at mosques, really it's essentially illegal because they are clearly trying to get people to vote for Obama -- and that's in violation of their tax-exempt status," Spencer charges. "So this is a group that is crossing the line and ought to be disciplined as such."

The Jihad Watch leader, however, figures that is not likely to happen. "...I kind of doubt that they will be [disciplined], given the politically correct atmosphere nowadays," he says. "I wouldn't be the least surprised if no action is taken against them."

Spencer contends that if a group called "Christians for John McCain" claimed to be non-partisan and ran a registration drive in churches, it would be all over the media and create a huge scandal and embarrassment for the McCain campaign.

Are you sure Alec Baldwin is spewing "anti liberal" messages? I find that hard to believe since he is such an ultra-liberal himself.

Its interesting to watch the right wingers and neocons trying to use Bush scare tactics against Muslims and other religions/beliefs- and not seperating the many peaceful followers of the religion from the radical right--- when what scares me as much is the Sister Sarahs that promote and try to tie together a one religion country/government based on the fundamentalist Christian Right...Every post Frankie puts on here reminds me of this- and scares me more than anything else..

That issue came up today in the Congressional Hearings on the Justice Department- and especially Attorney General Gonzales, who was shown to be hiring only those that followed the religious/political beliefs that he followed-even with summer hires and goes against all federal hiring rules and the Constitution...

While I believe this country was founded on Christian-Judao fundamentals-- I definitely also believe that the government should be kept seperate from any sects or denominations- and be tolerant of all religions... Or after the Muslims- do we go after Hinduism, Buddhism, Catholicism, Mormonism, Judaism, etc. :???: Or do we learn from the mistakes of our past :???:

Like I said- every post of Frankies scares me of how many of these fundamentalist "Bible Thumpers" are tied to the Republican Party anymore- and what kind of world would they reek if they got enough control...From this article it appears they are also scaring and causing the Repubs to lose the younger generations....

Generational issues
A recent study by the Barna Research Group concluded that most Americans under the age of 40 have a negative view of evangelical Christians as a result of the activities of the Christian Right.

When describing voting trends of twenty-somethings, neoconservative journalist David Frum commented on a divergence of viewpoint between the Christian right and younger generations and the inability of the current Christian right leadership to connect with the values and aspirations of the next generation:

The Republican Party has become increasingly identified with conservative Christianity. Younger Americans are becoming more secular and more permissive. In particular, young Americans have become increasingly tolerant of homosexuality and increasingly willing to have children outside marriage. While unmarried births have dropped among teenagers since the welfare reform of 1995, unmarried births have actually been rising among women in their 20s.

It now seems that the Rep's can't win so now you'll start trying to scare the shite outta people. Pitiful.

The Bible Thumpers as OT tags them rightly, are the Western version of the Eastern Imams.

It just that old adage that YOU are wrong and I'm right, even though you maybe talking about the same subject.

All this Christian Fundamentalism is just as dangerous as any radical sect of ANY religion.
