Sure looks like things could be gettin a bit "tropical" here in the next few days don't it? Actually was ridin the pastures yesterday and could use a lil rain....whoda thunk it after all the rain we had this summer, but there are places that the ground is already crackin.

Shoot, no wonder why I have been hearing thunder all day long, looks like we have a system in the area.. Been so nice today, low 80's, nice breeze (no sun which should have been the first tip to the fact that we might have weather a foot)... Hard to complain about lack or rain this year. Must have had 10 inches or 12 in July and so far the weather guys have said we have had 5 or 6 in August. Lot of water in the pastures, lots of mud too but I'll be darned if the grass has ever been greener on August 15th than it is this year.. We still have some grass here that is darn close to waist deep that was grazed one month ago, pulled the cows off, started raining and it just exploded.. Now we are entering the time of year wherewe tend to start getting wet again...lol.. If this was the dry period I would hate to see the monsoons coming.

When ya read this, y'all are gonna know what a flake-head I am.......either that, or was expecting some of the kinda "pictures" that have been being posted here lately.......

I thought the opening said, "Better get in your hay shed, boys, here she comes"

Batten down your hatches (I think that's the phrase I want) and hang on tight.......might not be a bad idea to tie yourselves to something that won't blow or wash away with that big storm headed for ya.

Good luck to everyone in that storm's path...........(((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))

That looks ominous- hope you and your hay make out fine, Haymaker.

It actually looks a little better this evening than it did this morning,we dont need anymore rain around here, all the stock tanks are full, rivers are still swollen and the lakes are at all time high levels.
good luck nr

Yeap it don't look too bad right now (11:17pm) but I bet it blossoms tomorrow afternoon long about 1 or 2 pm. Seems to be slow movin tho. Means if'n it does start dumpin....it's gonna be a bunch.

Funny how I've learned this livin here...after bein raised in West Texas where rain is sparse and not even knowin what a hurricane was LOL
Only thing I ever heard referrin to a hurricane was when mama would come in my room, and ask me, "Why's everthang strung all over "Herican's(that's mama's pernouncin) Deck?" meant my room was a mess and if I didn't git it picked up quick she was gonna whoop my behind LOL

10 days in a row over 100 and no ran in forever. Talk about parched.

7 weeks since we had so much as a sprinkle. :???:

What's so scary (I'm sure I have mentioned it before.) is that we have just gotten into our driest season of the year.

Even too hot and dry for pigweed.

I have traveled all over alabama in the last few days and noticed that it is looking like fall with the leaves turning but it is too early for the leaves to turn. What I am seeing are the trees dieing. Yes, whole hill sides of hardwoods are brown. I also notice that under most of the smaller bridiges I was under the streams have dried up and just dust. All the pastures are dead and brown. Cows are up in the hot sun in the middle of the day trying to get enough to eat. I know several cattle farmers are having water meters instaled to water cattle in pastures that have had cattle on them for over a 100 years with flowing streams. There may not be any cattle left in alabama by spring. I suspect that when people try to find hay this fall thay wil just sell out and not pay the price for hay.

Well, just cull em hard and ride it out, that's what I did,I still aint convinced the drought is over around here either, takin a kinda wait and see attitude, there is not a worse feeling than to have cull good cattle and watch your pastures burn up because of a drought, got 6 inches on the Hill Country place last year, the normal if there is one, is around 33.
good luck
