Maryland and Rutgers are in advanced and ongoing negotiations with the Big Ten regarding membership, according to multiple reports.

ESPN.com's Brett McMurphy first reported the news that Maryland was in "serious negotiations" to join the Big Ten. According to the report, Rutgers is in a similar situation and would also join the Big Ten if the negotiations are finalized. That news was then confirmed by Yahoo! Sports' Pat Forde, who -- citing multiple sources -- said both schools are in "advanced discussions" to join the Big Ten.

No date has reportedly been set for any announcement, but Alex Prewitt, Maryland beat writer for the Washington Post, said one could come as early as next week. Maryland president Wallace Loh, who has reportedly been handling the negotiations with the Big Ten, and Chancellor Brit Kirwan will need to present a recommendation to the Board of Regents. The recommendation would then be put to vote before an official announcement is made. According to Prewitt, that part of the process may not take very long.

Auburn's and Vandy's applications were rejected.

I can understand that. Because as weak as they are, they could still beat Rutgers & Maryland..............

It's really pretty simple....the Big 10 is looking for TV share on the East Coast. More TV share = more $$$$$ to spread around to the schools.

At the end of the day, it's all about the Benjamins.

Think they can fill up those 20,000 seat stadiums OR draw a TV audience?

I dont have a clue why they added them. Sure would have been nice to add a couple in the midwest. But I didnt understand why West Virginia joined the Big 12 and its working out.

That's total BS, Jigs, and you know it.....the money factor, along with the academic opprtunities were always mentioned. Sandy is 1000% correct on that one. You're getting more senile than Old Whiskeybreath. CRS is a terrible thing to have.
