Cousin had roped a cow and was trying to get a calf to suckle. The cow kicked caught his hand between the middle and ring ringer and split his whole hand open front to back clear to the heel.

!!OMG!!!!

I've seen an injury similar to that. My father, who knows how he managed to do it, was using a small chain saw and cut his hand open in about the same place.

I took one look...fainted into a lump!!!

I can look at a picture and do fine.

I can sew up cows & all manner of critter squirting blood this way and that....BUT....BUT...if it's ME or someone in MY world bleeding...count me out!! Or rather...count me down!!

I usually tell folks working on the place that if there's any chance of them bleeding...DO NOT count on me to help and don't come to show it to me!!!

Weird I know. :???: :???: :???:

Mr Lilly's dad was usin a chainsaw...years ago.....and the bar broke and his hand went into the chain. Nearly cut one finger totally off....he refused to go to the Dr....so we sewed it up with a sewin needle and thread. Talk about tuff to sew......I don't use a thimble much..sure needed one that day. Healed up just fine, he put wonder dust on it, and would bandage it every day.

Damn...what is the prognosis of an injury like that? I can only imagine all the nerve and tendon/ligament damage, let alone muscle and bones.

Gives me the shivers.

TTB

My dad got lucky and the chain cut right between everything so he had full use of his hand and fingers UNTIL he cut the tops of the first 3 off with a radial arm saw about 2 yrs later.

Now he has his finger prints ON TOP of his fingers. They just pulled the bottom that was still attached up and over and it healed up nice. Kinda funny when he has to get his pistol licenses renewed....his fingerprints are ON TOP!!

This guy that got kicked...he's in for some major pain. Poor guy. Hope he does alright .

50 years ago my Dad was playing on the amateur baseball team when the catcher caught a foul tip off his bare hand that way. His hand split wide open also. I don't know how long recovery took but I knew him as an old man who still milked cows by hand every day.

Went up and visited this evening to find out what had happened. His son was holding the rope on a salaer cross cow the calf was suckling a front teat and he reached down to break open the back one. She kicked and caught him between the little finger and ring finger it split up the palm a coupe of inches. It did not break the artery or the nerve, it bruised the nerve. He is getting along good getting feeling back in most of his little finger and good movement. Problem is keeping the bandage clean with the tail end of calving

a condom with a thumb hole in it works, saran wrap if that doesn't.just don't leave em on too long.

my ol' uncle lost half a finger clearing a sickle years ago.he went into the hospital and told the nurse"I need to see the Doctor,I cut off my finger"
She said"your whole finger?"
He said "No,the one beside it"
(true story.I swear.)
