R-CALF: Bill Bullard Receives President’s Award From Nebraska Farmers Union

Lincoln, Neb. – At it recent annual convention, the Nebraska Farmers Union (NEFU) presented R-CALF USA CEO Bill Bullard with the organization’s highest honor, the President’s Award, for service to family farm agriculture.

Bill Bullard is a man of vision, values, courage and integrity who has tirelessly championed the interests of family farmers and ranchers,” said Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen. “He has become a respected national leader on issues facing the cattle industry, including country-of-origin labeling (COOL), concentration and non-competitive marketing practices in the meat packing industry, unfair trade practices and animal health issues.

“Bill Bullard is not confused about whether he works for U.S. cow/calf producers or U.S. based international meat packers,” Hansen continued. “Bill Bullard consistently champions the interests of U.S. cow/calf producers. We need that kind of clear and strong leadership at a time when all too many livestock commodity organizations fail to stand up for our traditional American system of independent family farmers and ranchers efficiently and responsibly producing safe, high quality food for our nation. We appreciate his presence on the national stage.”

“As R-CALF USA’s CEO, I am honored to accept this award from the Nebraska Farmers Union, an organization that has been aggressively fighting to improve the economic condition of Nebraska farmers and ranchers even longer than R-CALF USA has been in existence,” Bullard said. “I appreciate NEFU’s strong leadership on key cattle market and cattle trade-related issues, both in the state and nationally, and look forward maximizing our individual organizational strengths by working together.”

Bullard joined R-CALF USA in April 2001 as its chief executive officer. The group is headquartered in Billings, Mont., and has members in 47 states. Before joining R-CALF USA, Bullard served as the executive director of the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission. He also previously worked for the National Farmers Union, the Oklahoma Farmers Union and the Nebraska Farmers Union.

If you know much about the NFU, well you don't place much value in their award. I don't know any 2 NFU members that work as hard as my 70 year old Dad - perhaps that's why my old Dad hasn't the time to coffee every morning.

LOL. That made me laugh so hard this morning that coffee shot out my nose. <chuckle>

See? I'm still laughing.

Now something like "Bill Bullard is a man of near unbelievable idiocy" would have made more sense.

Haymaker, what is "ncba/cca?

I do know what NCBA is, but don't know of a cca unless it is a state cattlemens assoc. If so, which state do you mean?

Thanks Haymaker, that's why we all are having these little problems that keep coming up. Most Americans don't have a clue what is going on in the rest of the world..... let alone in the next county.

At least in Canada we actually do take interest in other countries and what is going on in them. Maybe it is because we don't have enough going on here to keep us interested. You have no idea how many Americans still think we live in igloos and use a dog team to travel. :???:
How could we possibly have any thing of value to trade with?

I think Leanin H is serious. The boy has never seen anything but sagebrush and sand.

Oh, snow and 4 wheelers. Heck, didn't you know he was 14 before he saw more than a cup of water all in one place?

Its about context. Ofcourse MRJ knows CCA stands for Canadian Cattle Association in Canada, but its alittle misleading coming from Hay.

First Haymaker, I wouldn't waste time trying to make anyone think I'm smart, since what others think about me is based on their own particular biases, emotions and agendas. Popularity contests are boring!

Brad, I did think it possible he meant Canadian Cattlemens Assoc., but also considered the possibility of colorado or even connecticut cattlemens' assoc.

I have met a few Canadian Cattlemen and they are good people.

Of course, Haymaker has to persist in his fantasy of NCBA being controlled by packers........while he ignores the fact that over 32,000 cattle producer members actually control their own organization but are wise enough to know that the more we interact with people in other segments of the cattle/beef industry, the better we can make it for all of us and the consumers if we discuss with one another our specific needs, ideas and plans for the future, agreeing where we can and agreeing to disagree peacefully when necessary.

mrj,you have been proven wrong numerous times about the ncba and you disregard facts like you are blind.
Im not bored enough to rehash this subject tonite,I will tell you this tho,it is my humble opinion the cattlemen need 3 things to survive.
#1 M COOL
#2 The beef checkoff promoting beef "Born and fed to finish" in the USA.
#3 The "captive supply reform Act"
When ncba promotes these issues,I will be a member.
good luck
