Had a birthday party for our boy on Saturday. Grandma and Grandpa surprised him with the hide from last years deer, tanned. You might see a welt on his forehead. Not a zit....it's from an airsoft rifle....which is like a bb gun.

Did you ever see an Airedale without a curly face? Wonder how that happened.

Have hay millet bales that have been carried over and need to be fed up. They're about 10 miles from where the cows are now, still sitting along the edge of a field.....so instead of feeding meadow hay and alfalfa that's right there we've been hauling in a load of these most days.

Good pictures, Cal. Tell your son "happy birthday" from the gang at Ranchers.Net. :) Did that cold south wind blow today up in your country? It sure did here, thirty miles to the southeast of where you are feeding your cows.

In our country, hay in the stack is like having insurance. Ya never know when spring will come for good. And when snow flys, cows usually slick it right up. Thanks for the pictures and hope ya have a good winter! :D

Hey Soap, thanks, will tell him. That south wind was a bugger. Maybe if you'd have had all your windmills turned on it would have slowed it up a bit.

Hope you have a good winter as well! The thing about feeding up old bales....the string is usually breaking down and doesn't get as wound around the processor. My grandpa was farming and raising cattle during the dirty thirties. His advice was to try and have an extra years supply of hay on hand. Things are different now, but that seems a bit much.

Fun photo's...Happy B-day to your son! So what plans does he have for the tanned hide?
Thanks Jassy. That's a good question. It'd make a good rug, if the dog just wouldn't chew it up.

Thanks Cal,can't wait to try round baling this spring.Nice Place. What's the plan for the hide?Chaps?
Thanks, good luck with baling. If you have any problems or questions there are probably people on here that have operated every brand and model of baler there is that are always eager to give advice. I don't know if he'd have much use for chaps. We haven't used a horse on this place for years.
