Black Lawyers Call For Wilson Charges

Ya think he'd get a fair trial in front of a Black judge, jury, etc. ?

The nation's largest group of African-American attorneys and judges is calling for federal charges to the filed against the police officer cleared in the shooting of an unarmed black teenager.

The National Bar Association released a statement questioning the lack of an indictment against Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darren Wilson. A 12-member grand jury declined to indict Wilson, and some groups are pressing the White House to move forward with a Civil Rights investigation.

Attorney General Eric Holder told NPR there is not a timeline for the federal investigation but said they "will be conducted rigorously and in a timely manner so that we can move forward as expeditiously as we can to restore trust, to rebuild understanding, and to foster cooperation between law enforcement and community members."

A successful federal prosecution would be difficult, however. To prove a civil rights violation, the Justice Department would have to show that Wilson - who is white - improperly shot Brown with the specific intention of violating the teen's civil rights.

National Bar Association President Pamela J. Meanes said her 60,000-member group stands firm, however, on calling for the U.S. Department of Justice to pursue federal charges against Wilson.

"We will not rest until Michael Brown and his family has justice," she said.

The group said it had supported the Brown family's call for a special prosecutor.

"The grand jury's decision confirms the fear that many expressed months ago -- that a fair and impartial investigation would not happen," Meanes said.

After all this, I thought Officer Wilson should leave town, now I think he should leave the country. I wonder if he'll ever have any peace?

I've always thought the national bar to be rogue, now I know.

This country needs fewer lawyers.

I recently read that there are as many students in Law school now as there are lawyers in the country total.
