Black Ranch Horse sale

Faster Horses wanted to know how they sold. The results can be seen at http://www.dvauction.com/events/view/15941. I just caught the last half of the horses in the preview. I didn't think they showed real well. The young horse were always into the bit and pretty high geared. I asked about some of the horses and was told that there may have been one young horse (5 or younger) that was gentle and would make a nice horse for anyone, the rest were pretty jumpy. We did not stay as it did not look like there was anything that we were looking for. I did see some baby colts that were pretty nice. I would not say that that the horses were in really good sale condition. I know that they kept over 40 young horses home to start and sell next year as well as somewhere around 60 mares to breed. My guess is that the cream off the crop is still in the pasture. I looked at the results it looked like the top seller was lot 171 selling for $4,200. My guess is the avg. was between 500 and 800, if it was that high. They had a real good turn out at the barn, the seats were fairly full by sale time.

Thanks for the report, flyings. Horses most generally reflect their handling. It's hard to sell those jumpy horses, as 'gentle and seasoned' is the name of the game these days. I hate to see horses that are scared. It takes quite awhile to get them over that. And in the catalog, I, too, noticed the horses weren't in the best shape. Wonder what's up with that?

I clicked on the link, but it is no longer valid.

Having forgotten that both events were the same day, I ended up going to the ranch rodeo at Valentine instead of the horse sale in Gordon. Figured it might be cheaper entertainment.

Soapweed, what did you think of the Palimino in the Ranch Bronc Riding. They said he sulled up and didn't buck. What was he really like?
