Blackberries

I finally found out what a "Blackberry" was...Been reading all these articles and posts lately that talk about their "Blackberries"- Now I know blueberries, bullberries, strawberries and raspberries--but had no idea what all these yuppies and stuff were talking about "their blackberries" ...

I had to go inspect some bulls my bull man had sold to ND today so he could deliver them- and after we were done we decided the heat was sufficient that we should go to the waterhole and cool off at 5 oclock :) ... My banker came in with this little square box on his hip he kept looking at and talking into- making me wonder what waterhole he had been to before he found us

We finally asked what he was doing and he explained it was a "blackberry"-- his computer, calculator, and cellphone- was reading his e-mails, and answering calls....At least I didn't feel like such a dummy when none of the other fellas knew what it was either......

Well I learned something- but I'm not sure I like it- bad enough with the cellphones they can find you anywhere anymore- but now I could argue with Canucks on ranchersnet anytime, anywhere - never get anything done.....

I saw it- but didn't know what you were talking about.....I'm just kind of glad we're always a few years behind in getting this modern "technology"...

It was hard enough for me to accept cel phones, these guys that have to have phones, email, text messageing everywhere they go drives me up a wall. I guess thank God nothing works out here unless you know which hill to stop on :D

I'm getting old  Didn't have any phone until I got in High School- then we got a party line- I had a ball listening into the neighbor girls discussing their boy friends and talking to their boyfriends and then repeating it to them on the bus the next morning to make them squeal

A part of the county didn't have phones until 15 years ago (when we got one at the north place)---some had mobiles that only worked when the sunspots were right...

When I started in Law Enforcement they had new radios that worked 1/2 the time in 1/2 the county....You just told the dispatcher the area you were going to and if they needed you bad enough they called ranchers homes until someone found you- or you stopped at several places to have coffee along the day (community policing before Clinton even thought of the term) and checked in ( long distance calls back then)... Wasn't such a good thing if you got into a hairy situation and needed backup- but you learned how to work most things out on your own....Back then you didn't work shifts, you just worked 24 hours a day when they needed you- so I'd always pack a rifle and fishing pole in case I patrolled near a dogtown or good fishing hole....

Now "blackberries" and cell phones that you can talk to almost anywhere in the world anytime you want... Can't even go to the outhouse without someone finding you-- I think I liked it better in the slower days.....

enough with the cellphones

Cellphone comes standard with the lesser half's job same as his work pickup, company horses and the house. Before we got here a couple years ago, we'd had a phone, but it was mounted in the car. (Yes, it was a bit obsolete, but it still made calls when I needed it to.)

But since we moved here he's gotten to the point he can no more leave his phone behind than he can his calf book.
Two months ago he called me in the middle of the day and told me about this gizmo he'd found that went with his phone. A hands-free device.

He called me from the back of his horse, "Me and Jake are moving cows while I'm talking to you! How neat is that?!"

I so wish I could get a picture of that. The Marlboro Man goes high tech...

I think you can spray with Remedy to kill blackberrys. Liquid fertelizer will get your cell phone. Been there and done that.

Mr Lilly and I both have cell phones, along with both the kiddos. One's in college, and when he's drivin back and forth its handy. Lil Lilly only carries hers when she's goin on school trips, and needs to call and let me know when to pick her up.

Mine came in handy last friday. I had a blow out while ridin the pasture lookin at cows.....it wasn't an emergency by any means, but I was stuck out there with three tires fulla air and one that wasn't. It was about 11:30 am. Mr Lilly gets off work at 1pm and usually takes him about 30 minutes to get home. I called to let him know what had happened.
There I was sittin out there , me and the dog, under a shade tree, watchin the cows graze, when my phone rang, shortly after noon......I answered, was Mr Lilly, and I could tell by the noise that he was goin down the road in his jeep. I asked, what are you doin off work already? He said, "gotta come save my wife, she's stuck in the pasture with a blown out tire" I said, "Awwwww ain't that sweet, what am I gonna owe you?" LOL

Haymaker and Denny-- I probably have about the same minutes- hardly ever use it to call out- but pack it religiously in case a kid has a problem (ever day occurence-even when they are 26 years old  ) or if some neighbor needs an inspection they've forgotten til the last minute to get ( once a public servant- always a public servant  )...

I do think they are great and everyone should have one in case of emergencies- but like you Denny I don't know about the kids...6 year olds on up with them- only parenting or parental contact some get anymore is over the cell phone  They need parents at home rather than a voice on the phone...And as Doc says don't get me started on why our country is going that direction!!

Our cows are 12 miles from the house. Weren't nothin out there to ride home, cept for a lil army jeep that has no tags, no windshield, and most likely very little gas in the tank. oh.....and no brakes LOL

You mean you were out "Drivin' the pasture"?

Technically yes......I guess you could say that, but I "ride" in my truck, even when I'm drivin. LOL

bout the only time we "ride" (as in a horse), is when we gather em and push em to the corrals. And even then most times I don't ride, I'm usually at the corrals gettin things set up at the chute.
