I don't trust anything the Democrats say about Syria as they swore up and down Saddan had WMD and when Bush acted on all their rehdoric, he was the one that got burned. When the WMD were shipped out to Syria and Bush found nothing in Iraq, they all stood back pointing fingers as if they had nothing to do with the reason Bush went into that country. You can bet the same thing will happen again. They will claim Syria has WMD and when the Republicans take back the Oval Office and finally do something about Syria to protect the citizens and the area from WMD attacks, Hillary and Obama will stand back pointing fingers just like Hillary and Bill did. Oh and anyone doubting they will do anything to further their cause only needs to remember the statements this Administration made about the % of gun that are in Mexico that supposedly came from the US and then read up on the amount of guns that went South through the FAST AND FURIOUS OPERATIONS. U.N. Report Accuses Syria of 'Crimes Against Humanity'

On Feb. 23, 2012, a United Nations report concluded that "gross human rights violations" had been ordered by the Syrian government as state policy at "the highest levels of the armed forces and the government," amounting to crimes against humanity.

The U.S. military has calculated it could take more than 75,000 ground troops to secure Syria's chemical warfare facilities if they were at risk of being looted or left unguarded, CNN has learned.

The conclusion comes from a military analysis of options for Syria that the Department of Defense is preparing for president should he request it, according to a senior U.S. official.

Securing Syria's chemical sites would be "extraordinarily difficult" given the scope of the problem, a Department of Defense official told CNN.Both officials would only speak on the condition their names not be used because they were talking about military planning.

The U.S. military believes there are 50 chemical weapon and production sites spread across the country with additional storage sites and research centers as well. The cities of Hama, Homs and al Safira, and the port city of Latakia are all believed to house production facilities.

The analysis was provided by the United States' Central Command, which has been considering how the U.S. military would handle potential scenarios should U.S. troops be called in, according to a senior U.S. official with direct knowledge of the situation.

"Syria probably has one of largest programs in the world," said Leonard Specter with the Monterey Institute of International Studies. "It has multiple types of chemical agents." Specter said the stocks include World War I-era gases like chlorine and phosgene as well as more modern nerve gases.

The United States is paying particular attention to the possibility of the weapons falling into the hands of extremists, in the event the government loses control of certain areas or splinters among itself, the defense official said.

"There would be kind of a vacuum that would lend itself to extremists operating in Syria which is particularly troublesome in light of the large network of chemical warfare, (chemcial biological weapons), weapon-storage facilities and other related facilities that there are in Syria," Clapper said.

either the WMDs are an excuse to intervene, or a excuse on why intervention is a bad option..

If Obama has the courage and intervenes.. he may divert attention from Iran and his failed policy there...

if he doesn't.. he looks like politics is more important the lives..

why protect the weapons of a rogue nation?

It depends on how these "roque" nations acquire the weapons and who their freinds are

I wonder which Country Russia would ship WMDs to, if given the opportunity?

Satellite images released in 2004 by the Pentagon also showed Russian vehicles loading goods at Iraqi factories, but the nature of their cargo has not been determined.

Once the WMDs were shipped out of Iraq, the US was not about to start a war with Russia to "find" them.

I still believe this is part of obama's reluctance to go in to Syria now. He'd have to admit that it was all a sham, when the "Left" was saying Bush lied.

I should also add, that I believe the WMDs from Iraq were allowed to travel to Syria, so a reason for future intervention in that reason could be had.

Now that Iran is in Syria helping out its ally, it's all coming together.

With all the experience Obama has of blowing people up with Drones , why doesn't he just send in a few and clean them up. That way they are gone and nobody will ever be able to prove they all came from Iraq. He has proven little to no intell can be collected from a crator in the desert.
