The Justice Department will prosecute anyone found to have violated U.S. law in the leaks of classified government documents by online whistleblower WikiLeaks, Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday.
"This is not saber-rattling," said the attorney general, who declared that the Obama administration condemns the leaks. Holder said the latest disclosure, involving classified State Department documents, puts at risk the security of the nation, its diplomats, intelligence assets and U.S. relationships with foreign governments.

"To the extent that we can find anybody who was involved in the breaking of American law, who put at risk the assets and the people I have described, they will be held responsible; they will be held accountable," Holder said at a news conference on another topic. He called the WikiLeaks probe "an active, ongoing criminal investigation."

In a very bold step the obama administration "condemed the leaks"

oooooooooooo- I bet there is warm urine running down someones leg!
how long have they had since the first leak to DO something?

And they are just now getting around to a criminal investigation?
The response time is slower than the response to the gulf oil spill!

Oh here is Sarah Palin's thoughts from her facebook page-
I guess she thinks like the rest of us do!

We all applaud the successful thwarting of the Christmas-Tree Bomber and hope our government continues to do all it can to keep us safe. However, the latest round of publications of leaked classified U.S. documents through the shady organization called Wikileaks raises serious questions about the Obama administration’s incompetent handling of this whole fiasco.

First and foremost, what steps were taken to stop Wikileaks director Julian Assange from distributing this highly sensitive classified material especially after he had already published material not once but twice in the previous months? Assange is not a “journalist,” any more than the “editor” of al Qaeda’s new English-language magazine Inspire is a “journalist.” He is an anti-American operative with blood on his hands. His past posting of classified documents revealed the identity of more than 100 Afghan sources to the Taliban. Why was he not pursued with the same urgency we pursue al Qaeda and Taliban leaders?

What if any diplomatic pressure was brought to bear on NATO, EU, and other allies to disrupt Wikileaks’ technical infrastructure? Did we use all the cyber tools at our disposal to permanently dismantle Wikileaks? Were individuals working for Wikileaks on these document leaks investigated? Shouldn’t they at least have had their financial assets frozen just as we do to individuals who provide material support for terrorist organizations?

Most importantly, serious questions must also be asked of the U.S. intelligence system. How was it possible that a 22-year-old Private First Class could get unrestricted access to so much highly sensitive information? And how was it possible that he could copy and distribute these files without anyone noticing that security was compromised?

The White House has now issued orders to federal departments and agencies asking them to take immediate steps to ensure that no more leaks like this happen again. It’s of course important that we do all we can to prevent similar massive document leaks in the future. But why did the White House not publish these orders after the first leak back in July? What explains this strange lack of urgency on their part?

We are at war. American soldiers are in Afghanistan fighting to protect our freedoms. They are serious about keeping America safe. It would be great if they could count on their government being equally serious about that vital task.

- President Obama has not commented on the Wikileaks document dump that has, at the very least, embarrassed the United States, angered many Americans, and caused U.S. allies to question if the U.S. can be trusted to keep secrets.

On Wednesday, Obama’s spokesman dismissed the leak of diplomatic secrets as no big deal, although others have said it may put American lives in danger.

"We should never be afraid of one guy who plopped down $35 and bought a Web address," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told Fox & Friends. "Our foreign policy is stronger than that; we're a stronger country than that. We're not scared of one guy with one keyboard and a laptop."

So Gibbs is saying 1 guy with $35.00 and a laptop just did this to America on obama's watch??

Oh wait it gets better, as the Clinton's wade in tag team to throw obama under the bus!

Gibbs expressed no anger at the leak. He didn't reveal Obama's reaction, but he did indicate that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton speaks for her boss.On Monday, Clinton strongly condemned what she called the illegal disclosure of classified information: “It puts people’s lives in danger, threatens our national security, and undermines our efforts to work with other countries to solve shared problems,” she said at the State Department.“So let’s be clear: this disclosure is not just an attack on America’s foreign policy interests. It is an attack on the international community – the alliances and partnerships, the conversations and negotiations that safeguard global security and advance economic prosperity.”

Clinton said she is “confident” that U.S. partnerships with other counties will withstand the troubling development.

She added that the United States “deeply regrets the disclosure of any information that was intended to be confidential, including private discussions between counterparts or our diplomats’ personal assessments and observations.”

Echoing what his wife said on Monday, former President Bill Clinton on Tuesday said he thinks the leak is very damaging: "I'll be very surprised if some people don't lose their lives," Clinton told an audience in North Carolina. "And goodness knows how many will lose their careers."

I wonder if the obama administration is happy, in some ways, this information was leaked. Most of the information was already known, or confirms assumptions that were already made.

The "leak' also can now be used as an excuse for many of the policies that were already on the table, but not implemented yet.

the whole thing seems just too easy, to have just happened by "accident".

Does anybody else wonder why the New York Times has had this story on the front page, while they refused to publish stories about Climategate, because the "leak" of emails was illegally obtained?

Here's a quote from Assange:

Asked if he wanted to expose the secret dealings of China and Russia the way WikiLeaks has done with the U.S., Assange said, “Yes, indeed. In fact, we believe it is the most closed societies that have the most reform potential.” He sounded heartened, if not overwhelmed, by the response to the megaleak so far. “The media scrutiny and the reaction are so tremendous that it actually eclipses our ability to understand it.” But he said he believed there was a shake-up going on, adding, “There is a tremendous rearrangement of viewings about many different countries.”

If I'm not mistaken, it sounds like he would like to "fundamentally change" many nations to the point that their is no longer any exceptionalism.

It's too bad he has never been a community organizer, he might have been presidential material.
