That's why the County Sheriff is the only law enforcement position (to my knowledge) that is elected by the people. If they are out of line, you vote them out.

What are the qualifications to be a sheriff? Our county sheriff is a lawyer/politician, probably hoping to run for Senate at some point. He's got a D after his name, not that it's important other then the fact that they do specify it when running for the position.

YEP- I quit after 28 years of law enforcement- retired making more than I would if I kept working- and moved into bigger and better things....And apparently enough people respected my work enough to ask me to come back and help out- and be Judge for multiple counties and multiple city courts..

And as the old current Sheriff said to me today when I went into court for some arraignments "work some cowcountry justice"- which with the one case of a babyraper he was talking about I'd have loved to-- but we still have a rule of law in this country- that I put above all else...

The comedy of the whole situation is few of you even know what is happening in "the real world"-- or the 200+ years of precedent or history involving the laws on the books or constitutional requirements that have evolved during that time- and can't look at the Constitution past the rightwingernut crazies screaming about birth certificates and everyone should have a dozen guns issues... :(

So NOW come back and attack me personally some more since that seems to be what you get your JOLLIES out of...

28 years and only one term as sherriff?? not impressed. seems most of those who voted did not think as highly about you, as you do yourself.

Thank You Sir-- I have never regretted my choice of professions- and could/can always look myself in the mirror in the morning with a feeling of pride and accomplishment.....
But I also never regretted the decision to buy out the family ranching operation I had worked on all my life- and take it over full time- when the opportunity presented itself....Life goes so much nicer when you're having fun doing what you like to do....
