has anybody tried putting tire stud's into boots?
George said:With all the ice here I fell twice each day for two days so I went to town and bought the last pair of slip on rubber/spring ice grippers.
Ace hardware had the last pair in town and the cashier told me they had been selling for $9.99 but when the ice hit the boss raised them to $23.99
This kind of p****d me off but I felt this was cheaper than a trip to the hospital so I got them.
I wore them so much that in two weeks I have about worn them out. But the footing was great and I will buy a new pair this fall just to have on hand!
They slip on and off very easily and can be kept in a caot pocket making them very easy to keep handy.
George said:I had thought about studding some boots but I am in and out and do not want to damage the floors when I go in.
The units I bought are called "Yaktrax" and look like two screen door springs in a double X patern on the bottom. Seem to work well but I have worn out a pair in about 2 weeks of steady use.
I get to put them back on today as there is about 1/8" of glare ice over everything with a forcast hi of +34F today. All of our creeks and streams and rivers are very hi for this time of year after melting the ice and snow we had and then over an inch of rain in about 18 hours.
More rain forcast for Thursday in the mid 40s

The local Muck outlet, tells me to use short hex headed screws for ice. Take them out when there isn't any ice. May have to try it yet this year.
hayguy said:O.K. i've had my muck boot's for just over 2 year's now, have worn them a fair amount but not like Gcreek's 10 mos. a year  however they have started to crack and leak. is this a normal time frame? is there anyway to patch them? just to much plastic in the off shore rubber. was hoping to get more than 2 seasons out of 130 $ boot's . Or am i just dreaming that they should have lasted longer?
