Nice pictures, the wife, a 70 yr old friend and I sorted, vaccinated cows, and branded calves last Sunday and Monday. Wasn't time for photos  . I used to enjoy big brandings but as I get older and grumpier I like to have a skeleton crew and a good setup. It seemed that no matter how few we invited to heel calves years ago there was always the self invited faction that showed up for free beer and a meal. 15-25 drunks at a branding is not conducive to normal blood pressure or a good job. Our calf table that I once said I would never own has painted on it " this replaces 25 drunks" :D The last "branding" we put on cost us close to 700 bucks in food and beer, a dead calf and several missed horns.
I do however, enjoy working with a crew of real cattle people that know what they are doing. That is one of life's pleasures. :D

I've seen and heard of a lot of brandings like that, I know what you mean.
This one went very smooth, everyone knew their job and done it well.
No one even had a beer although there was some available. Everyone had either a pop or water.... sandwiches, cookies and fruit for lunch.
They had a crew of 8 doing their thing and I got to sit back and take pics. :)
I have quite a few more pics, but it would just take to long for dial up users.

Nice pics Jigger...

I was up kinda close, but traveling with my Boss and we only had enough time to hit Vanderhoof, no further West. I may be at the BC Cattlemans in 100 Mile in June though.

Have to wonder ho old that calf table is. We stopped and talked to a guy near Kamloops who had one his dad bought 47 years ago. Just put new springs on it and it still works great.

I could not really see the setup leading to te calf table. A lot of times what people are truly cussing about Branding on a Cslf Table is not the Calf Table itself, but the alley leading up to the Calf table. Generally, it is too wide so you have to get in there and push calves, fight them turning around and the like. Often, it is like being in a football game...

I have sold a lot of Pwder River Calf Alleys. It consists of two Calf Alley Tailgates and two Calf Alley Panels, 12 or 16 foot. It narrows the Alley to 18 inches. For the industrious, it would not be that difficult to build and it takes a ton of work out of the job,

The alley up to the table was just post and plank chute, thats why the one fellow was in there just to push the calves into the tip table.
I asked today how old that table is, they weren't sure but its old.
They think its from the 70's. It actually belongs to the Tatalrose farmers institute, so its seen a lot of calves from many a ranches through the years. Its starting to show its age, but is still a real good table.

If you get a chance to get up here again, feel free to stop for a visit :D
