SAO PAULO (Dow Jones)--A single sick bovine on a ranch in Rio de Janeiro is
being tested for foot-and-mouth disease, the press office at the state's
Secretary of Agriculture said Friday.
The animal has sores on its mouth and hoofs and has a fever.
Test results will be known in 10-days, according to the press office.
The area has been blocked off and the animal is in solitary confinement,
according to the press office.
Rio de Janeiro has roughly 2.1 million heads of cattle.
Brazil is the world's leading beef exporter.
