The second part of "Broken Trail" is on television (AMC) tonight. Starring Robert Duvall.
Is anyone watching it?

We missed the first part which was on last night.

Watched both parts.

I don't know why they get some things right and other things that wouldn't cost much to make right, they screw up. Sure makes my butt sore! :x

Fairly good show , as far as Hollyweird shows go. Better than most and a fair plot.

I set my DVR to record both shows and it failed to record either......maybe it is the plain and simple fact that I am mechanically/technologically challenged

My daughter watched it and I saw some of it. I don't like Thomas Hayden Church. at least that's what i think his name is. He played the dumb mechanic on Wings. I couldn't picture him a cowboy.

So that is who that guy is. Mr. FH kept saying, "who is that guy? I've
seen him before." He was talking about the guy in the bent up hat.

I think he played the part of Tom Harte. Britt didn't like that bent up hat either.

I often times wonder where they come up with some of those hats.

How could so many hats get set down on all those years, cuz that's how they look. Plumb humilitating.

Some of the good ole actors like Robert Duvall shouldn't
let those 'dumb hats' get in their movies. Ruins the effect.

Lonesome Dove: I remember watchin an interview with Ricky Shroder, he said that they had a pile of hats, that they got to choose from, drew numbers or somethin and went in order pickin hats.....he got the last number so there fore got the last hat.....and if I remember it was a sad lookin lil hat.

Most guys who are making the movies, want you to look different than the cowboy hats of today. And to stand out, so as to be better identified.

I've reserched hats quite a bit. There were all kinds and the ones that were turned up were turned up over the right eye, so that the guy didn't have a brim in his way when he was shooting a rifle.

When you were far from town, you'd wear what you had, but when you got to town, you'd buy a good new one.

Check out the hats in Russel and Remington pictures. Russel painted what he saw. If he painted it, thats the way it was.

As far as I can find, the crowns were the first part of the hat that got shaped, with a flat brim that took on it's own shape with use.

The flat brim was to protect you from the elements. Not like today, when most can get in a pickup or tractor cab.

Robert Duvals hat in the movie, was off, by a few years, IMHO. But, he can ride a horse. And I thought the other guy did pretty good, considering he's a plane mechanic.

Forget the hats....Robert Duvall is just plain " hot"!!!!

But he's still Augustus McCrea ( sp) from Lonesome Dove in my mind...no matter what character he plays. That part 'stuck' to him!

I watched both parts. It was good to get a change from what you usually see on TV.
The charactors in the movie were based on real old west people, and the horse drive on an actual drive THere's just one thing those movie people have to get figured out, you don't ride the same horse every day on a long drive.

If you watch the very beginning of Part 1, when they are running the herd on the ' 10 mile run', if you look really close you will see that one horse really takes a tumble! I mean he gets rolled and stomped.

I am surprised that was not edited out. It wasn't a planned fall....you can plainly see that several more go down with him.

OUCH!

I've been compared to a young Wilferd Brimley-but that was in Montana-they don't get out much down there. Lonesome Dove is the best movie ever without a doubt.

Robert Duvall is well......Robert Duvall.........he's the same in every movie no matter what the roll. He's just plain good. I wouldnt say "hot"......lol but he is good. I love his movies.
Lonesome Dove isn't what got me to likin his movies tho. In all honesty, I can't say I've ever sat and watched Lonesome Dove all the way thru. I watched in bits and pieces way back when it came out and was a mini-series......I keep tellin myself I need to sit down and watch it. But that hasn't happened yet.
Now....Sam Elliott....if he's in a movie, you can bet your bottom dollar I'm gonna be watchin it....usually several times!!!! :D

Why do all wimmen like Sam? He's not very handsome. I say it's the mustache and the voice. Take them away, and he's toast!

But I got to say, I like Sam too.

And Robert Duval has a lot of range. I seen him play several different characters over the years, and he was a different person in every one. The problem is, everybody wants him to play Gus, now. But I like Gus, so thats fine with me. I just wish they'd hire some people who know what is right and what is wrong and then listen to them. :x
